Correct me if I'm wrong here but can't the amish also legally sell venison jerky etc. Where I cannot. Which I believe is why the law exists is to help prevent overharvesting. And I'm not saying the Amish are killing more deer than allowed i have no idea. I do know when i used to hunt WV rifle i would see a couple different groups of Amish from both PA and OH usually and they would check in their deer. They were never driving buggies though usually some F250's. And the one guy i saw prolly 8-10 yrs in a row always had a huge buck. Always found this a little strange as big bucks like these were very, very few and far between at this time. I mean it was a big buck if it had eight points and everyone had this mentality then. And he would have huge bucks several yrs in a row?

The only experience I've ever had with Amish hunters was 10-15 years ago and me and my buddy still get a laugh out of it to this day.
We had hunted all morning during gun season and neither had seen anything. We come out for lunch and were sitting on the tailgate of the truck eating a sandwich and talking about what we didn't see. These 2 amish guys come walking up the road and walked past us. We said "hi" but they never even looked at us....just kept walking up the road. They get 100 yards up past us and cut into the woods. 30 seconds later we hear a shot and they come walking back down the road dragging a deer. We watched them drag it all the way past us and then out of sight. Here we'd spent hours that morning between the 2 of us hunting and not seen a single deer.....these guys start to finish got a deer before we could get our sandwiches ate. :D

Public land is available for the benefit of all people, to include tourists. They have as much right to be there as anyone else. I can not think of one good reason why they shouldn't be hunting there. Well, to be successful on public land it really helps if there are game animals available there, but they have every right to be there.

I always wondered why I was hearing that they do not. I found this on the amazing Internet:

Q: Do the Amish pay taxes?
A: Yes. They pay all the taxes-income, property, sales, estate, corporate, school-that other people do. In fact many of them pay school taxes twice-for both public and private Amish schools. The US Congress exempted the Amish from participating in Social Security in 1965 because the Amish viewed it as a form of commercial insurance, which they opposed. They believe that members of the church should care for each others' physical and material needs. Thus, most of them do not pay into Social Security or receive payments from it. In some states, the Amish have also been exempted from workers compensation (insurance for on-the-job injuries) for the same reason.

Yes. They do pay taxes.

I don't think the Amish as a whole are these devients we're making them out to be. My whole life i have heard they kill kill kill but i definitely have no first hand knowledge of this. Plus I was taught to judge a man by his actions. I do not interact with any Amish therfore i prolly shouldn't judge them. I do respect their beliefs if they truely believe and follow them. I do get a little ticked when i hafta follow their buggy up a hill etc, although they seem quick to get out of the way to let ya by. I also believe their maybe a family of them living in Cabelas everytime i go in there their seems to be alot of them and maybe i missed it, but i never once saw a horse or buggy tied up out front. Also wonder if i could get out of paying soc. sec taxes. by the time i retire their won't be any money left for my broke azz anyhow.:mischeif:

Non residents get labeled as slobs,Amish get labeled as slobs. So if you are a non resident Amish do you get labeled twice??? They have just as much right to hunt public land as anyone else. I have never seen these Amish deer massacres people talk about. They must be some damn good hunters if they are hauling deer out by wagon loads in places where other guys cant get one.

I've seen em have 20 deer piled up. There's always at least 1 that drives a big van to haul em around. Last year there was a camp of them on neighbors property.... Everyone of em was " bowhunting" I ran into one in the woods with a remington 700 bolt action, I kicked him off the private ground. He repeatedly said he was just squirrel hunting. Couple days later I heard a number of rifles going off, went to investigate and said they was coyote hunting. I told landowner and I talked to him later that night, he said they done packed up camp n left. So I'm a Amish hater.

I am surrounded by Amish and they don't hunt anymore cause the new check in requires ssn and they don't have one. They are always the first to come back and help me if I need help and are always willing to sign a slip if you want to hunt thief land just like the rest of us not all Amish are the same

Best post of this thread!

We live around a lot of Amish. We employ several of them on our farm. They work harder and faster than any "English" we have hired. We have also caught two trespassing/hunting on our land in the past and both were prosecuted and ended up with hefty fines. They are no different than any of us. There are good and there are bad.
