What on earth do you do with all those carp guys? I've wanted to get into bowfishing but I don't like to kill for the sake of killing. Do you eat them? use em as fertilizer? Just curious! Thanks!

its the reason i quit bowfishing...i used to give them to people here in columbus that ate them...i guess i feel the same way about coyotes but i admit that i might justify that by doing a full mount of a couple...
Food plot and garden fertilizer. I also chunck some and freeze it for trapping bait and it works awesome. I know alotta people give them to hog farmers to feed the hogs with. There's actually a restaurant in town that asked us to bring our carp to them because they grow alot of their own veggies and want the carp for compost. And a lot of types of fish you can shoot while bowfishing are good eating. Whatever you decide to do with them you gotta remember its not killing for the sake of killing it's doing the body of water a great service
Im hoping the creeks and rivers on your own property?Ok, I'll bite! Each year i do supply several neighbors with fish for their gardens. Otherwise, I deep six em or dump em on the creeks or rivers edge. ***** and turtles gotta eat too
X2! This is a problem in some areas, not so much around here, and I hope it stays that way. Gotta make sure we as bowfishermen do our part to properly dispose of our fish.

cut what i can into chunks then go through the process of rendering the oil out for trapping then freeze some of the chunks in small portion bags to throw in a pocket or dirt hole set come november 10th. the rest of the carcass i cant use goes on my uncles farm in whats left of a filled in well by the creek where i run a small line... kinda prebait them if you will. If you wanna just delibrately toss them on the bank and walk away do us all a favor and quit. Gives the rest of us a black eye. No one likes walking down the bank to the smell of rotting fish and hundreds of flies buzzing around our head. :thumbs_down::nono::irked:
I am going to agree with bank dumping but I have no concern with letting them go back into the water where they supply other forms of life with sustenance. Myself, I feel they make good trapping bait, fertilizer and fish patties. I have heard that they are good when smoked as well.
I have never had the opportunity to shoot so many fish that I have had to deal with numbers that are overwhelming, so not an issue for me.

yup bank dumping is terrible and it stinks and draws flies...i'm thinking of fishing by dams...talk about bad smell and flies but a lot of that is done by fishermen...they need to clean up their act too...including leaving hooks and fishing line and trash...:biggrin:
The best thing I've heard is to get a small pine board. Soak the board in water overnight. Coat the board with melted butter then attach a carp fillet to the board with cooking string. Flavor with your favorite spices. Place fish plank grill for 45-60 minutes or until fish is flaky. This is the most important part... Remove the string and fish from the board and discard. Then proceed to eat the pine board!!! :bouncy:
