Need An Old Eagle Gas Can Adapter? Make one.
i called eagle and they told me i need a new can...:nono:hmmm i thought this was the last can i'd ever buy

...i guess the new spout doesnt fit my can and they dont have an adapter...:nono:...guess i'll just have to keep using the funnel...
Hi,
I just went out and checked this out. "Adapter" gave me an idea. I have a brand new yellow Eagle can spout I got from Ace Hardware for a 5-gallon can. It is a loose fit for the old can's spout or neck threads. Nuts, but it is not that loose.
I installed an old solid Eagle 5-gallon gas can cap onto the can. I was able to press fit the new yellow funnel onto it with ease. So, you could use an old failed white rubber spout cap with the small hole in it. Maybe cram some polyethylene tubing [no plastisizer (sic) ] in the tubing from a hardware store and use it as a friction fit filling tube.
You will need TWO gas caps. One with a the hole and one to seal the gas can for storage.
Just cut the hole bigger to pour out the gas but make sure you leave enough of the old gasket or rubber sealing surface to seal the can spout. Or just use the above tubing suggestion with the old spout hole.
Now you could seal the threads in the gas cap with the hole around the outside and also fill the fiction grooves with some RTV silicone rubber smeared onto the outer surface. Put some oil on the yellow spout to use it to mold the RTV and later release it or use aluminum foil or teflon tape.
The problem is that the yellow spout has to be removed to close up the can. So, you really need a solid cap for storage and one with a hole for pouring with the yellow spout or PE tubing.
Just look at the thickness of the cap and the slight gap with the new yellow spout. They match!
I think you will be OK without the RTV. Of course, you could apply insoluble two part mix epoxy on the outside of the cap with the hole. How about an O-ring around the "filler cap" you made?
You'll figure it out.
