My favorite 45 Colt load is 20.0 grains of 2400 under a 255 grain Keith style bullet that I cast. I also shoot it in my 45 Colt rifle. Just make sure you use a heavy crimp when you load for the 45 Colt. This is a very accurate load in my Low Wall.

I like the 2400 because I get good case fill. And I prefer good case fill for my hunting loads. Alot of guys use a faster powder so they can use less of it to save a buck, but I prefer the case fill method of reloading. And with a good case fill you really do not have a chance of a double loading. Tom.

 

There are many good powders. You just have to decide what projectile and how fast you want it to go. Also consider the length of your barrel.

If I was limited to just 2 powders for the .45 Colt, I would choose Unique and 2400 for all of my loading needs.

 

sounds good Fred. Will start out with the 2400 then...

 

2400 is the powder Elmer Keith used to hot rod the .44 SPL and then developed his favorite loads in the .44 Mag. The .45C in a Contender can follow suite. Just follow the book loads.

 

Fred....do you use mostly jacketed bullets or cast?

 

Cast only.

 

Fred...when I get ready to start load developments for my 45 long colt...I will have alot of questions on cast bullets. No experience with them at all. I would like to try them.
