Future of the Buckeye Big Buck Club in jeopardy?

Is the Buckeye Big Buck Club dying off? You don’t see or hear much about or from the BBBC unless the ODNR is promoting it. Notable organizations and hunters are choosing Buckmasters instead of BBBC for official scoring. Buckmasters has a visible social media presence and the BBBC has none. If you chose Buckmasters over BBBC- What was your reason? What’s your opinion on the presumed decline of BBBC control over trophy buck scoring in Ohio?

I dunno . I think all of it is just a chest bumping .

I dunno why but when I see someone holding a Rack with a high Buckmasters score I kinda eye roll . I do think deer should get credit for all they grow. But for some reason a full add em up of a BC/PY represents a relatable score for me . Not sure why .

I'll add ,the score doesn't make the deer . Some giant deer out there that don't score as big as they look . Also some great hunts on smaller scoring deer that made great memories.

For the typical category, there is something about a clean symmetrical rack that is really impressive. However, not sure I get a measurement for air (spread) being a factor in determining a trophy.

Most of the guys I know it seems register one....the first one that scores well enough. After that first one they don't have any more registered. They may have them officially scored, but don't register. Now keep in mind the guys I know have taken nice deer, but nothing top end. I'd guess if they ever took a real top end deer they would register it. Same for myself; no interest unless I get a top end deer perhaps. Even then I'd think twice about unwanted attention that always follows.

I’ve never had a deer scored

Hasn't the BBBC always carried a strong ODNR connection?.....doubtful that the late 50s would have seen individuals themselves coming up with the idea for such a trophy-focused promotional organization given deer populations at the time....just seeing or shooting one was enough for most.
The state connection alone, when noting a tad bit plus ODNR dislike and dislike of ODNR deer management plans today, would seem to play into hunters and shooters preferring other more modern or less state affiliated deer organizations.

Recently talked with a friend who stated his father and buddies walked a couple of miles to see a deer track around 1960 in Washington County. Even I can recall Saturdays spent looking during an October, 1960 in Washington and Monroe....that action for an 8 year old was fun and much of what led to friendly, non-competitive groups of deer hunters, the dreaded drives and and a general good feeling for the coming of ....deer gun season.
That interest, that keenness, that hope, that comaraderie probably boomed the BBBC for a good spell.....but, a lot changes in people over 60-70 years when a lot changes in a resource and in many of those who see a resource as defining themselves.

Good luck to the BBBC....tradition and first should mean something, regardless.
