I worked hard for this little muley buck and Im proud to show him off. North West Nebraska in the sandhills of the Oglala National Grassland. This is my first muley and my first public land DIY success. We had 75-90 degree high temps everyday and 5 other hunters in the area. Spotted him leaving a food source approx 200 yrds away with 2 other young Muleys....I belly crawled from an elevated ridge into the draw they were working. We met in the middle and I shot him at 10 yrds while he was looking at me. Drilled him with a 100 gr Rage 2 blade with my new PSE Vendetta XS. He piled up after 60 yrds.

BGHunter,
Yep, you get a buck tag good for either muley or WT.....then a bonus WT doe tag. The area we hunted is being taken over by the WT. I saw lots of deer every day. I saw a 150 class whitetail one day while stalking and the biggest muley I saw was prob a 130. Im hooked and will be back in a couple years.

Mike, we were hunting the ollagolla national forest and its a large public land area but the muleys are concentrated in a small unit that we were told to hunt. I can't make an honest reply but it was two pastures maybe 500-800 acres?

Hey guys....here is a little more elaborate post i made over at archerytalk...thought some of you may enjoy the added pics and story

I recently met up with another forum member RossCo in Iowa and proceeded to North-Western Nebraska for a DIY Public Land Mule Deer/Whitetail Deer Hunt. We arrived on a Sunday and left 6 days later on Saturday. The area we hunted was part of the Oglala National Grassland. We saw a good number of deer everyday.....both whitetails and mule deer. I was very happy with the quality and number of deer in the area. We stayed at a local dive called The Homestead Drifter Bunkhouse and Cook Shack. They had great food and the accomidations were very comfortable. I would recoment the place to anyone lloking for a nice place to stay.
Mornings were spent glassing from higher elevations, day spent stalking the sandhills and drainage ditches, evenings glassing and hunting known feeding locations. On the final day I arrowed a small 4 pt muley buck as he worked his way back from private agricultural fields. I had mixed emotions after harvesting the muley. Knowing the management side of hunting I felt guilty about shooting such a young deer, but after working hard all week this was the first buck i had a good solid shot opportunity at. He only went about 60 yrds after a 100 gr 2 blade rage. Here are a few pics from the trip. Thanks and Enjoy!
