It's not healthy if you cut them off, if they depend on the food source then it is hard on them to just stop.
Maybe you have too many deer....

Agreed.
Just need fewer tags issued to grow the herd.
Piles of corn is not healthy for deer, research it on your own. But it's legal in Ohio.
A study diet of corn is not good for deer. Most forest deer aren't making a corn pile their only source of nutrition.

You guys are nuts.. If it didn't make it so much easier then you wouldn't do it..

Say what you want but baiting isn't hunting.

It's like saying you play baseball but your hitting off a tee. It's that much of a difference. Man some of you guys just crack me up. Justify it how ever you want. Sounds to me like a bunch of pretend hunters posting your pics.. if you were so proud when you take your pictures drop the pretty scenery and take your picture next to a corn pile where it was really shot over! Lol

no different then you taking viagra. isnt that cheating?

I think way too many people take themselves, hunting, and just life waaaaayyyy too seriously.

The venom people are willing to shoot at each other and the ease at which people will attack and all in the name of making yourself seem bigger or better? Just to stroke your own ego, sad. :gaga:::bs::

I won't say it's easier to take a doe over bait . I will say it is in some areas . Out here in farm country I don't think it makes it easier at all . Because they just don't care about your corn pile . I have seen them walk buy the corn pile to eat beans . If they wanted corn they would have just walked out of the other side of the field . I have also watched the squirrels do the same thing .
I am going to use Texas as a example just because I have seen how the deer become a slave to the corn . Last year when I was there to shoot pigs I ran deer off the corned road 3 times in a hour . and they would just come back . Yes getting out of the blind and walking down the road . And in 5 to 10 minutes those deer were right back . Now we all have opinions and this is mine about fair chase . If you hunted a 2 square mile high fence area in the same area in Texas without bait . Then your hunt would be 100 times harder than a no fence baited hunt . So now make the high fence area 50 square miles but no baiting . Now when we are talking about high fence hunting here in Ohio the places are very small . But they are Legal . Many that use the baiting is legal card don't want these high fence places to be legal .
My question is should I wear booties on my boots before I get in my condo on stilts? That's way more important than baiting is cheating topic.

You know instead of showing up when convenient to run your mouth and tell everyone how they aren't hunters, etc because of corn don't comment at all. Its not needed. BTW if you shot your avatar that looks like a corn fed, high fence deer over a field, close to a field, acorns, etc your a baiter just like the rest of us! you must be jealous that some people get it done and some don't. Kind of looks like your avatar is something from a high fence to me. BTW real men have to sit to pee because we might break something standing up. whats your excuse?
Actually your comments about him couldn't be any further from the truth. My parents live maybe 5 miles from where his deer was taken. I have over 100 acres in Geauga county behind my parents that I have not bothered to hunt in over 10 years for deer because it is a total waste of time. I can understand his frustration with "hunters" who wait for the first big snowfall so they can hover over a corn pile and snipe every deer that comes into the pile. Between that, years and years of urban tags, Amish, nuisance tags there are not many deer left in the area to hunt. As far as farm fields those are few and far between. Then for mast crops you might have some bumper crops of maple nuts because this area is known for the amount of maple syrup that is produced around there. Darrins deer scored just over 200" if I remember correctly. It is probably the largest whitetail ever taken in Geauga county. Another thing that I find interesting is that he only hunts with a longbow. He also does not use trail cameras either. So that being said ohihunter2014.......what's your excuse?

Baiting is there any difference between setting up on the edge of a corn or hay field oak trees fruit trees or throwing a bucket of corn out to attract deer

I mean really think about this if baiting would get banned then the hunters that set up next to a food or water source would be breaking the law

You wouldn't be able to classify a farm field as a natural resource. Why you ask because it is put there every year by man, nothing natural about it

What about a Pine Licking branch most I seen in the pics on this site were set up by man to attract deer
Water source really? Let's just make any harvest of wildlife illegal. Hunting a water source couldn't be "baiting" unless you had a hose running to a trough for them to water.... Man made pond or planted crop let's gets real. All game we harvest in Ohio requires water. Do I throw out a pile of corn? Nope. Do I care if others do? Nope, as long as our herd show no signs of a transmissible disease I don't see why someone can't spend anywhere from $10-$1500 in a year to increase there chances to harvest an animal. If they can justify the cost to the conclusion of their season so be it. As far crops to corn piles... Well guess what for about 200+ years now Ohioans have manipulated the land and harvested animals. including whitetail once they were reintroduced to our state when alot of our countryside was majority of crops. So yes it's different than a corn pile or salt lick because for generations these animals know cropland as their natural habitat.

My excuse is the low deer numbers! haven't you been paying attention to the 400 page stakeholders thread. BTW that buck was killed in 2005 when were were at our peak. I hunt geauga also and have seen some big deer that without palmation would have scored 180-190'' but due to poaching, liberal tags, etc that place is a dump now too. I was trying to get your buddy to realize its not right to degrade people. I also apologized to him. Ive shot longbow also and its not as hard as alot of people put on. Never hunted with one but shot one quite a bit when i was younger and i could hit vitals out to 25yards. Point being dont come here out of the clear blue and start a bunch of trouble degrading alot of people and not expect to be called out.

I'm not dumping anything next year because it hindered more than helped for my daughter personally 1 year i tried it with 0 difference. Might be differerent where there is competition for food. Fresh picked corn next to an undisturbed woods is the best bait around me.

Apparently there must be two Darren Sotera's of Geauga county. According to the BBBC records, the other Darren Sotera shot a 171" net buck in 2004, and as of now, there are 12 other bucks bigger than his? Hmm I find that interesting
