Because this event could have larger implications with respect to gun ownership, carry laws, SYG, and the whole issue of self-defense. As a responsible gun owner, I would think that getting the answer right on this high profile incident would be of great interest to any of us who own and value our firearms.

You can bury your head in the sand and ignore the debate, but then don't be surprised if laws get changed while you aren't looking. If Zimmerman gets convicted, I expect that someone will be calling for tighter gun restrictions of some sort, as a minimum.

A thought that I've had recently about this case is why Zimmerman pulled the trigger? Once a gun is pulled and stuck into someone's ribs, it usually puts an end to any fighting. Shooting someone that appears to be unarmed after you get the drop on them seems like a bit of "over-kill", so to speak.
Objection...you weren't there...
