I don't know how anyone else feels, but I feel that se should not go towar with Iraq. I am a die hard American. I support the U.S. and am proud to be American. I supported the U.S. stand against Afganistan. I support the weapons inspectors in Iraq. I support the stand that the UN has taken. I do not however support a war with Iraq. We have atomic weapons. We have chemical warfare. We would be attacking a country for the same reason that another country could attack us.
On the other hand, if this is all a bluff, it is a very expensive one. We are spending millions of dollars in sending a battle group over there, as well as troops. Why don't we take care of the thousands of people here in the U.S. that are homeless and without jobs. Why not take care of our own back yard.
How do the rest of you feel?

How can you compare the US having Nukes to Iraq having them .. That comparison can't even be made .. The US has Nukes for self protection against attack... Back in WWII, if we didn't have the Manhatton Project, and get these Nukes developed and used the world would be under Hitler's control ... we beat Germany in the development of Nuclear Weapons by a month at best and this was due in part to some very couragous German scientists that saw the evil of Hiltler and defected to the US. The United States uses its great power both military and economic to help all nations in the world that ask for assistance. Iraq will use any means it has to create terror and destruction on this planet .. Can you name me one instance where Iraq has done any service to the world ..or been forthcoming in there actions .. I don't know what you are thinking... If this madman gets Nuclear Weapons .. and you can bet that at some point if left alone he will .. You will not need weapons inspectors to find them ... Just watch the news and hope its not your city or family that goes up in flames. You are buying into the media representation of what is going on .. We are not going to war with Iraq .. we are going to destroy his ability to cause mass destruction period. We are not going to conquer Iraq or assume control over it .. That is war .. kind of like what they did to Kuwait WE MUST PROTECT AND PRESERVE OUR WAY OF LIFE NO MATTER THE COST, it is the US that was attacked and if it showed one thing ... it is that if we sit idol and let these madmen have the time, they will come up with the means to inflict destruction upon us. Clinton buried this countries head in the sand for 8 years.. he gave them time .. they found the means on Sept 11,2001 .. Do you want to sit by again, and see what they come up with next time:mad:

My point is this. You don't put a man in jail for something he might do. You don't start a war for something they might do. Seems like we are getting the cart before the horse. Im all for defending the U.S. and I love this land. I just believe at this point in time there are more important things to be done right here at home.

I take it you don't think his lying , his hiding weapons which he is not allowed to have .. by a UN declaration . not US .. Harboring of terrorists, violation the UN no fly zone, shooting down our unmaned planes ... all this is the act of an innocent man .. and yes if someone or something is considered a known threat to himself or others, he is put somewhere where he cannot do harm. At then end of Desert Storm, he set fire or destroyed everything he could set his hands on with his Scorched Earth policy. This is a man that has used chemical weapons on his own people .. killed hunderds of thousands of Kurds has no regard for human life or human rights .. and is a few years at most away from nuclear capabilites ... If you feel safe knowing all of that then that is your decision .. I know one thing .. I don't feel safe for anyone as long as there are people like him in control... You are right you don't start a war for something someone might do ... You take action to keep them from doing it, after careful investigation, making sure you are right and weighing the consequences... Once again you use the word war ... there is not going to be a war with Iraq .. we are going to eliminate his abiltiy to commit horrible acts of mass destruction by destroying his weapons, and the factories where he makes them The media calls it war to scare people and to sway them to the liberal side of thinking. I will ask anyone opposed to destroying any weapons of mass destrution he has ... How long do you intend to wait:confused:   Do you know that even a crude Nuke small enough to be brought into this country on a boat, hauled around in the back of a pickup could kill hundreds of thousands:confused:  Yes we have problems here in our own country, I would love to see NAFTA eliminated and get some of our jobs back that Clinton gave away ... Right now, in this time in history the USA is more vunerable to attack then it ever has been and it amazes me the people that want to sit back and see if it will happen .. AGAIN. Do you think for one moment that if Osama could have gotten his hands on a nuke instead of an airliner he would have used it..... When evil people start getting this technolgy they will sell it or give it away to people to use on us. These people prey on our weakness's right now our biggest weakness is our abilty to forget, our liberal media that thinks everyone in the world does the right thing and that you can talk your way out of situations, the bury your head in the sand mentality .... These people are willing to die for their cause, and will stop at nothing to destroy our way of life. Iraq is a major player in this way of thinking. There is nothing that I can say that will change your way of thinking ... I just hope more americans don't have to pay for it with their lives...

to quote a guy from another BB I visit, it is plain and simple we are going to have to eventually fight Iraq. The question is now and on our terms, or later after they use a weapon of mass destruction and on their terms. Doesn't look like much of a choice to me.

Why did Clinton do it, the answer is simple, it wouldn't affect him, and if the a republican was to follow him into office, the economy wiuld suck, opening the door for another Democrat/Socialist. I am so sick and tired of politicians doing things for their party, and not for the good of this great nation.

Pretty easy to say "lets go to war" when your not going...
I have 4 various family members over there in some capacity or another and pray for their safety and ours too...

We should no longer be the worlds only voice of reason all the time... The UN is there for a purpose and we should abide by the rules we helped create. We should not, as a nation, take it upon ourselves to fight the good fight because we do not belive the rules of the UN are there for us too

We should do all we can to stop that sick S-O-B and remove him from power but only with UN support... That is a given...

Ask yourself how many times we have liberated a country only to have that same country come back and bite us in the a$$ ???

I also am tired of hearing all the "what if's" all the time... I can give you a 1000 reasons to go to war and another 1000 not so it seems the rhetoric will fly no matter what...

Our nation is under attack from others now not Iraq and all our efforts should be directed in that direction

NAFTA is UNREAL.... nough' said

It is easy for me to say lets go to war. I have family in the military and friends too. Been there done that, spent 6 months in desert storm and I feel it was wasted time. Why because the bastard is still alive, still in power still doing the same things he was doing before D.S. He is a bad man wether you guys want to see it or not. Sure I want to take care of my back yard but we need to make dam sure first to insure that we will still have a back yard. I don't understand what the we should wait is for. So, Saddam can pack up and leave the country like he did last time. Do you want to see pictures of what that man did to Kuwait. The skies were pitch dark during the afternoon from the burning oil wells, not to mention the people and property that was destroyed. The non complience with the U.N. agreement, shooting at OUR planes in the no fly zone, shooting down our unmaned planes are all acts of war. We should of been in there a long time ago. I spent numerous night not being able to sleep, sounds of sirens, loud noises scared the hell out of me for a long time after desert storm and for what. They need to take care of this and to do it right. No they can't please everyone and we can't espect them to. But if they are going to take on/out iraq than they should go all out and not half ass this time.

This is just my opinion and I hope everyone takes it that way as I respect everyones opinion here. I do see others views but I just can't agree with it.

All in fun discussions,

Bill

I agreew with you Flathunter. However, the traditional way of pulling a country out of depression has been war. Maybe that is the method behind the madness. I'm not saying go to war with North Korea, but I personally don't believe we are any better off with them having nukes. The whole point is to get rid of them, not increase the amount of countries that have them! As for Iraq, whatever they decide to do I'm for. I'm American, and proud of it!

Dont want to see a war either, but I dont believe a word that
Sadam says. What other country has a mob hitman for president?
And the UN, what have they ever shown me? They let Iraq
thumb its nose at them for years without the guts to do
something about it. Have about as much use for them as I do France. I only wish I could see more proof of Sadam's weapons.
I know its there somewhere.

I don't think a country would have warheads for no reason. It's not like they are a collector's item.........they are used to inflict severe harm on people. I think we should give the inspectors more time, but not much more. If they don't come forward by the end of Feb. then it's time to go.

I am all for giving saddam a few nukes ... someone had to bring up france .. man as far as I am concerned they can have a few too... I wonder how many americans lost their lives liberating that useless country from hitler .... We should have let germany keep them ...:D :D

I also don't want to see anyone get hurt dealing with that idiot, maybe we should have put a few tons of tnt on that freaking human shield bus ... kinda like they done to our airliners... I think the US goverment should label that whole bunch traitors and take away there citizenship ... then they can see just how nice of a county Iraq is when they move in:D :D :D

Yeah, what the hel is that human shield crap?????????? If they did that crap in the 1700's they would be in prison or hung. What happened to when people who stood up for the other side were dealt with accordingly? LIBERALS and Democraps...........that's what happened. This country is going to hel in a hand basket. Just look at TV.........what happened to the times when if your daughter was, let's say "dirty" it was looked down on and not spoken of............basically it was WRONG. Now we have these shows on TV "Who's the real father" "I'm cheating on you" "I have se x with multiple parteners"

We need to grow a pair, like when we first gained our independance.........stand up for what we believe. I guess that's the problem.......we as a whole don't believe. The shield people are prime example. Sadum's probably laughing his azz off that American's are standing up for him.

Have you guys ever thought about there being another civil war in this country? This country is divided in many areas. I'm not talking about some ******* race war stuff. Gotta stop, getting too worked up.

I have mixed emotions

First, I'd like to see a peaceful world driven by the ideals we feel God would want us to live by.
Now.....that being said, as nice an idea as it would be, to have all our resources for the betterment of mankind- let's face it. It's not going to happen. I don't care if there's a documented second coming......then there would be a war to capture Him !!
I guess you could say I'm in that middle age thing. Vietnam was raging when I was teen & young adult. We were told if we didn't stop them over there, there would be a domino effect and we'd have Communist taking over the entire planet.
I'm a patriot, I would give my life for a number of causes if necessary & am not afraid of a fight. I also am just SLIGHTLY sceptical of our wonderful government and their agenda. I'm not sure that they are being forthright & telling us the real reasons, and might be alot of propaganda involved. Iraq has alot of oil fields. With a new regime, we've already heard we'll do business & also American companies will develope them to their proper potential. It's estimated they are running at 50% or so now because of outdated equiptment. Cheap energy is a great stimulant to our economy.......
I like this quote
You don't put a man in jail for something he might do.
Do we lock up someone for owning a gun ?? He may commit a murder? All the nations have weapons, we sold alot of them to them too ! We supplied them when they fought Iran..... ??
It's too bad it's not just cut & dry....there's alot of maybes & if's involved. It could destabilize other nations, maybe they will run in for a piece of the pie.
It looks to me like we are going to have this war at this time. I'm in support of our servicemen & women. I pray our leaders are fighting a just fight. There are battles & wars all over the world now, that aren't newsworthy I guess because they don't have oilfields & aren't close to oil fields, some are in the diamond fields & there's still huge loss of life. Sure, I agree, a man who kills his own people,(the Kurds) is bad man.
This time, Iraq knows we are going to attack. We don't have the global backing like we did. They also know the Patriot missiles really weren't that effective, they just thought they were. On a news program they explained all that. So anyway, Israel & other surrounding countries Saddam doesn't like will suffer. Also I think Saddam knows this time we are out to get HIM. A madman who fashions himself to Hilter, knowing his fate, hads no reason NOT to unleash all his weapons of mass destruction. That's why a few months ago there was a Press Release that we would use nuclear weopons if he uses his mass destruction weapons. We're going to have lots of ground troops. I don't know how long a gas mask works, but I'm sure someone has figured out weapons that will outlast them. I would hate to see alot of todays young military people die needlessly and then 20 or 30 years from now, the survivors look back & wonder why we fought in the first place. By then, the decision makers will be writing thier memoires and who knows, maybe they'll say it was for the oil fields, or for politics, had to make the strikes before the next election as the hanging chads were too close in the last one, etc.
There is potential for HUGE loss of life by Americans this time. Our objective is a regime change, not just to force a retreat from Kuwait. Reagan could've don a pre-emtive strike on all the leading terrorist way back when they all met( late 70's-early 80's). But it was called off at the last minute. Clinton had opportunities too. Now we live in a dangerous world. I hope this war doesn't just touch off more hatred towards us & more & escalated terrorist attacks. I hope the objective of making a safer world comes out of it. I'm also certain they will find stockpiles of weapons, (whether they are really there or not:rolleyes: ) We'll see the pictures of them. I could make some up right now for that matter.
I guess I'm a skeptic, I won't be going to war, I won't be risking my life. I'll support our military people 110% I know people get killed in wars, and hate to see it happen. Peace is a much nicer alternative the world isn't ready for.
I like to watch history stuff now, and looking back sometimes makes you wonder of all the lives lost, at least it does for me. I visit my mother's graveyard. There's veterans from the Revolutionary War right up to Vietnam buried there. There's also a WW1 cemetary up the hill in Reading here I pass all the time. All those white headstones in rows & rows. How many mothers, brothers, fathers, wives, girlfriends, etc stood there & wept? Are we willing to pay the price? I certainly don't have the answer to achieving peace in the world. We'd have to support dirty colvert operations again( we stopped that during Clinton) and we'd need good intelligence, and alot of other stuff I'm sure. I just hope when we look back on this in 10, 20 or 30 years we'll say we did the right thing & be proud of what we did & there's not another idiot in charge of Iraq, etc we have to go after because we didn't do it right this time.

war

I hope it dosent have to happen. Cause if it does we are going to bring back a lot of young Americans in body bags. The reason I say this is because. If they have a wepons of mass destruction. This time they will be used. All that idiot has to do is to wait untill we have our troops in place and let it fly. What are we going to do nuke them. Wont and cant happen. There are to many allies to drop nukes on them. We cant use gas because of the un treatys. Thats not to mention the fact that the citizens of Iraq will stand up and take up arms against us. You see for the last ten years saddam has beaten in there heads that the United States. Is the reason they are starving, dying because of the sanctions in place. And thats not to mention the fact that the last time we bombed them we killed a lot of civilans. So If any one thinks this is going to be a cake walk is nutz. Ever since Russia went from commies to being free. There has been a black market for military supplies. And we all know that they had nukes. They had ones so small that they could be carried in suit cases. And those were capable of taking out city blocks. Now they may even have Russian made gps jammers. So all that will do is have bombs missing targets and hitting area where people live. In turn will tick off people of Iraq and you will have hatred for America run that much deeper. And do you think the kurds come off the mountains to help out. When bush senior left them out to dry. With his bull crap promises. Dont get me wrong I love America. I just dont agree with the smoke thats being blowed up our backsides. I mentioned the sanctions that were impossed on Iraq. Thats why North Korea flat out said. If sanctions are impossed on them that they WILL set off nukes. Now f you ask me I think they would do it. Thats because they know the hardship Iraq citizens are having because of one idiot. If war is the answer then so be it. But our problem lies with a guy that has nothing to lose and a country(America) that has to walk on egg shells. All that is left to be said is. I hope this dont turn out to be another Vietnam. And to all the people that has loved ones going over seas. I hope you see your loved ones(heathy) very soon.

I know this is going to sound simple, and I know that I am ignorant to many areas of this conflict. But, don't we have jets that can pretty much go undetected? Why do we have to risk any lives? You can launch missles from 100 miles away? If we are going to do anything we need to do it all at once.....ver fast very hard and very effective, not this conventional let's dik around with them for a while type of war. We have those unmaned jets.....why not arm them? If they crash they blow something up....if they are successful, then something gets blown up.

Sad-dum says if US attacks we will be sent back in bags.....seems pretty stupid to say something like that. That will just make everyone think he is lying about have some big weapons or he is holding something back, somewhere and when we do hit him he'll use it.

These actresses and actors speaking out against action in Iraq kill me. All they talk about is Government censorship, free speech, ect. in America. Let them go to Iraq and try to make and sell one of their movies, and I'm sure that they would be executed in short order. If Sean Penn was an Iraqi citizen, and protested Sadam's treatment of the Kurds, how long do you think that He would be alive? If the Arabs ruled the world, they would be the first to go. Sadam is playing these liberals like a fiddle.

Someone on here mentioned that the Iraqi people are starving and desperate. I believe that after the Gulf War, Iraq had a oil for food agreement. Sadam keeps the food from His people, and blames the U.S. That is how He, and others like Him stay in power, by oppressing their people. During the Gulf war, Sadam ordered the oil fields in Kuwait burned. He will do the same in Iraq if given a chance. Securing the oil fields seems like the right thing to do to me.

I hate to see a war over there. Thinking about some of the things that could happen makes my blood run cold. I have a nephew who has been in Kabul for almost a year. He likley will end up in Iraq. He says that he thinks that it has to be done.
