I have mixed emotions
First, I'd like to see a peaceful world driven by the ideals we feel God would want us to live by.
Now.....that being said, as nice an idea as it would be, to have all our resources for the betterment of mankind- let's face it. It's not going to happen. I don't care if there's a documented second coming......then there would be a war to capture Him !!
I guess you could say I'm in that middle age thing. Vietnam was raging when I was teen & young adult. We were told if we didn't stop them over there, there would be a domino effect and we'd have Communist taking over the entire planet.
I'm a patriot, I would give my life for a number of causes if necessary & am not afraid of a fight. I also am just SLIGHTLY sceptical of our wonderful government and their agenda. I'm not sure that they are being forthright & telling us the real reasons, and might be alot of propaganda involved. Iraq has alot of oil fields. With a new regime, we've already heard we'll do business & also American companies will develope them to their proper potential. It's estimated they are running at 50% or so now because of outdated equiptment. Cheap energy is a great stimulant to our economy.......
I like this quote
You don't put a man in jail for something he might do.
Do we lock up someone for owning a gun ?? He may commit a murder? All the nations have weapons, we sold alot of them to them too ! We supplied them when they fought Iran..... ??
It's too bad it's not just cut & dry....there's alot of maybes & if's involved. It could destabilize other nations, maybe they will run in for a piece of the pie.
It looks to me like we are going to have this war at this time. I'm in support of our servicemen & women. I pray our leaders are fighting a just fight. There are battles & wars all over the world now, that aren't newsworthy I guess because they don't have oilfields & aren't close to oil fields, some are in the diamond fields & there's still huge loss of life. Sure, I agree, a man who kills his own people,(the Kurds) is bad man.
This time, Iraq knows we are going to attack. We don't have the global backing like we did. They also know the Patriot missiles really weren't that effective, they just thought they were. On a news program they explained all that. So anyway, Israel & other surrounding countries Saddam doesn't like will suffer. Also I think Saddam knows this time we are out to get HIM. A madman who fashions himself to Hilter, knowing his fate, hads no reason NOT to unleash all his weapons of mass destruction. That's why a few months ago there was a Press Release that we would use nuclear weopons if he uses his mass destruction weapons. We're going to have lots of ground troops. I don't know how long a gas mask works, but I'm sure someone has figured out weapons that will outlast them. I would hate to see alot of todays young military people die needlessly and then 20 or 30 years from now, the survivors look back & wonder why we fought in the first place. By then, the decision makers will be writing thier memoires and who knows, maybe they'll say it was for the oil fields, or for politics, had to make the strikes before the next election as the hanging chads were too close in the last one, etc.
There is potential for HUGE loss of life by Americans this time. Our objective is a regime change, not just to force a retreat from Kuwait. Reagan could've don a pre-emtive strike on all the leading terrorist way back when they all met( late 70's-early 80's). But it was called off at the last minute. Clinton had opportunities too. Now we live in a dangerous world. I hope this war doesn't just touch off more hatred towards us & more & escalated terrorist attacks. I hope the objective of making a safer world comes out of it. I'm also certain they will find stockpiles of weapons, (whether they are really there or not

) We'll see the pictures of them. I could make some up right now for that matter.
I guess I'm a skeptic, I won't be going to war, I won't be risking my life. I'll support our military people 110% I know people get killed in wars, and hate to see it happen. Peace is a much nicer alternative the world isn't ready for.
I like to watch history stuff now, and looking back sometimes makes you wonder of all the lives lost, at least it does for me. I visit my mother's graveyard. There's veterans from the Revolutionary War right up to Vietnam buried there. There's also a WW1 cemetary up the hill in Reading here I pass all the time. All those white headstones in rows & rows. How many mothers, brothers, fathers, wives, girlfriends, etc stood there & wept? Are we willing to pay the price? I certainly don't have the answer to achieving peace in the world. We'd have to support dirty colvert operations again( we stopped that during Clinton) and we'd need good intelligence, and alot of other stuff I'm sure. I just hope when we look back on this in 10, 20 or 30 years we'll say we did the right thing & be proud of what we did & there's not another idiot in charge of Iraq, etc we have to go after because we didn't do it right this time.
