Since I sell to steel fabricators I had two of my clients provide me "drops" or out of spec steel sheets. They cut them to dimension for me and added some hanger holes, then painted. I got two that are 1/2" thick and one that's 1 1/2" thick (that one I can barely lift its so heavy). I got lucky on that pickup.
I had this guy made over 9 years ago before I retired from the service. It is mild steel that handles pistol and cast rifle bullets. It will get concave then I turn it around and shoot it straight again. It has some cracks in it, time for some welding.
If your in the Youngstown area, Star Supply on Mahoning Ave just outside the downtown has scrap metal pieces. prices are a little on the high side they have some stamped and drawn ends for air compressor tanks that would give off a bell type ring.
