I'm starting this thread because I'm in the NE zone and have to wait until next weekend to start hunting.

So good luck to everyone who gets to start hunting tomorrow!!!! I need some stories from the field to keep me going until I can start hunting too.

congrats on those birds so far!! nothing better than gobbling turkeys in the spring, and connecting is even sweeter! tough first two days for me in south central ohio .. hunting some high grounds, woods are still very very wide open, zero gobbling after fly down. covered approx 10 miles on boot on Saturday & Sunday. back after it Friday thru Tuesday of this coming weekend!

Congratulations Steve!!! Too bad we can't get two birds this year or you would find that your second turkey is not as easy as your first. LOL!!! Awesome job!!
It took me 3 years to get the first :)

Looks like there was a couple blinds in the pictures. Do you think that is the way to go? I believe I got busted the other day when I turned my head.
60 dollar simple doghouse blind that's on it's 10th season has helped put several fans on my wall. Wouldn't hunt without it. This years bird walked right to the blind and never looked back. Had the decoy only 10 yards from the blind and it didn't matter. Turkeys are incredibly smart but also really stupid. No call, decoy, shell, choke tube, etc has attributed to more turkey hunting success than the dog house blind. I use it exactly like I do for deer season. Deer are more aware of it than turkey but I still had 5 deer within gun range in 47 minutes of hunting Saturday. Can not stress enough how great the blind is. My land is infested with ticks. Sitting in a chair keeps them off me. First time I hunted it I didn't have a blind. My wife picked 57 ticks off my clothing that year. Thank God none started burrowing in me yet. Blind is the way to go!

A blind reduces the chances of you getting busted. They dont work in every situation but when I can use one I will.

MrHunt - I spray all my clothes with permethrin before the season starts. Ticks can be a serious health threat, many people underestimate how sick you can get from them

Wow - that location looks amazingly like the place I hunted for years before I lost access. What county are you in?

Cool trick luring him in with a Snickers bar! I would have fallen for that myself.

This morning was the first morning I never heard 1 gobble so far this season. It was dead quiet. What a bummer
