Heading out in the morning at 6AM for our annual SC public land hog hunt. We will be once again hunting the Woodbury WMA near Gresham SC. It's 25,000 acres of public land. In the past years we have stayed in Myrtle Beach but the drive 40min inland and another 35min back the sand road was getting old. We found a rental cabin only 5 miles from Woodbury this year! Looks very nice. TV, kitchen, screened in porch, sleeps 6. Looking forward to being closer to the hunting this year. 5 of us leaving HarrCo at 6am tomorrow. Another group of pansies are staying in Myrtle Beach so we will have 10 hunters total from eastern Ohio. Our group grows every year. Hoping to put the 450BM on some hogs. I picked up some Black Butterfly Ammo loaded with 275gr Barnes XPB bullets. It shot same POA/POI as the 250gr FTX Hornady I deer hunted with. I love Barnes bullets for tough game.

I'll try to get some pics up if the opportunity presents itself.

Good luck . And I'm a big fan of Barnes for tuff game also . However I'm trying some Federal Trophy copper and Hornady GMX this year because Federal quit loading the Barnes TSX . If you shoot a pig get some pics of entrance and exit holes .
Have fun and be safe .

We have a couple thousand acres of private land in Florence SC that we hunt a 2-3 times in the winter months with dogs . I didn't get to make it on the first trip down two weeks ago , but the group ended up with 8-10 in a two days of hunting . You wouldnt think those hogs could hide from a pack of 15-20 hounds but they do a pretty good job of it at times .. If you ever get a chance to run hogs in the swamps of SC with dogs you should try it also .

We had another great trip to Woodbury WMA. Our cabin was absolutely fantastic and right along the Little Pee Dee river so we had some bonus catfishing at night. A total of 4 hogs were killed, I drew the big 0 this year.

I didn't get to take the pics. The evening all 4 of these hogs were killed we had a guy's GPS go dead and he was lost in the swamps. Wasn't funny then but was funny once we found him! The Ruger .308 Scout rifle pictured with the hogs was shooting Hornady GMX bullets and put the smack down for sure!

Picture of the cabin where 5 of us stayed. It was much more roomy than is shown here. Had a loft upstairs with 2 beds, one guy brought an air mattress and a rear main bedroom where I slept. One guy is the "I'll sleep on the couch" guy every year. Pavilion outside, screen in front porch and a fishing dock.

No dogs or bait allowed during the week long "still gun hunt" season we go for. Basically it's spot and stalk or just stand hunting. We do an occasional small push or "drive".

Congrats- Good work! We had a tech from SC come in to the office this week for training that killed a Big old one in S Carolina that he says went over 400 lbs.

Hi R. Toker,

I know this is a 4 year old thread. Are you heading back to Woodbury this year? I am going with my son this year for our first trip. I was wondering if you would give any specific advice on where to hunt hogs in woodbury?

Thanks,
Carl

Not gonna make it this year unfortunately. Best advice I have is go in by the cemetery and drive back as far as you can go get away from the crowds. Take some hip boots or frog legs and do some slow stalking into the swampy areas for best success.
