Debate on Sportsmen's Dollars and the Division of Wildlife Budget Scheduled
for This Week

Sportsmen must help protect Ohio's wildlife funding from drastic cuts by
attending the House Budget Subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, March 12, 2003
in Columbus.

In an effort to balance the state budget in 2003, Governor Taft has proposed
to raid the coffers of the Ohio Division of Wildlife. The budget proposal
makes outright cuts to wildlife programs and diverts sportsmen's dollars to
non-wildlife expenditures.

The budget proposal would rob Ohio's state wildlife agency of an estimated
$5.5 million, a 12 percent budget cut. A slash this drastic would mean cuts
in agency personnel and conservation programs for game, non-game and
endangered species. Land acquisition, wildlife area improvements, wildlife
law enforcement, fishing access and fisheries management would also be
scaled back considerably.

The Ohio Division of Wildlife is nearly self-sufficient while providing
recreational opportunities for millions of citizens who do not hunt, fish or
trap. This will continue as long as funds meant for fish and wildlife are
used for that purpose.

Ohio sportsmen must attend the House Budget Subcommittee hearing on
Wednesday at 3:00 PM in House Hearing Room 115 at the Statehouse. Meet at
the Statehouse Rotunda at 2:15 PM and wear an orange hunting cap with
appropriate attire so that our group is recognized as individuals who oppose
cuts to fish and wildlife programs. Those who cannot attend should call
their representatives today. To find your legislator and to leave a
message, call (800) 282-0253 or use the Legislative Action Center on the
U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance website, www.ussportsmen.org
<http://www.ussportsmen.org>. Ask them to protect the Ohio Division of
Wildlife's budget for the good of all Ohioans.

If you have any questions about attending the committee hearing, contact the
U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance Ohio Committee at (614) 888-4868.

When are we going to get a real governor? Taft has NEVER done anything but screw the outdoors community.

His take on concealed carry(I can't do anything unless my ballzz*highway patrol* don't come with me) and the fact that he can't maintain a good economy in Ohio are rediculous.

Maybe he SHOULD allow concealed carry.....you make folks pay $10 for a permit......I would do it as I'm sure 1000's of others would. Kill two birds with one stone.......drops crime rate and raises money!

BUT NO.....Taft is spineless!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't have a problem paying $30 for a license if I knew it IS going to benefit the outdoors community.

Here is what I emailed:

I would like to know why it is that Ohio's wildlife funds are going to be used for other purposes? The reason that the 1000's of people pay for a license to hunt/fish/trap in Ohio is to benefit our wildlife resources, not fund banquets and such other things.

More money is spent by outdoorsmen on fishing than any other sport/recreation. Think about all the 1000's that hunt deer the first week of December every year. That is a lot of votes and not the first group to get on the bad side of, as I'm sure I am not the first person to email you with these particular concerns.

Another question regarding concealed carry. WHY NOT???? This would be a PERFECT way to wipe out two bird with one stone.

A) As shown in all of the other states that allow concealed carry, crime rates would lower. That is never a bad thing.

B) This would be a great way to raise funds for the state. Let's say you charge $10 or $20 per person to register. That is sure to raise money, as I know myself and many others would love to see a concealed carry law pass. If a person passes all the required areas......there is no reason not to allow that person to protect themselves. Think of all the young women that were raped or assulted near the OSU campus. If the offender, and people like him thought for a second that their victim might be carrying.....I doubt they would put themselves in that situation.
I for one would be willing to take any test or register whatever because I know that I have never and will never abuse the right. Nor would the other responcible firearm owners in Ohio. If I am correct the amendments states a right to bear arms. It does not say the right to bear arms only in your home.

I would appreciate a responce to these issues.

Thank you.

I hate sending these things.......nothing ever comes from a email or letter. Not enough people take the time or care enough.

thats why we must let them know of our dissapproval...in the past they just took it and it did not come out til someone leaked it...well now they are forced to tell before they take it,now its our turn to disapprove and all us republicans need to let republicans know they are not safe from being put out of office in ohio...everybuddy who voted taft needs to let him know he lost their vote no matter what office he runs for...we forced em to let us know before they steal the odnr money so now its time to carry it further...i'm sure the odnr will appreciate our backing in this issue instead of slamming them...SLAM TAFT,SLAM TAFT,SLAM TAFT...EVERY BUDDY CHANT,he'll get the message
