Groce is a great coach and I'm not basing that on this season's tourney run. He did great things on the bench at OSU and the players take to him which is paramount.

Groce knows full well what he is walking into and he has serious work to do to get Ill back in the mix. He'll find all the talent needed close to home...the question will be can he real them in over ND, IU and OSU. And he enters a leage full of really good coaches...at least 3 HOF coaches on the sidelines currently at a minimum & that is tough sledding!!!

I think your idea of Boals is good - he would be a great young coach for OU IMO. He has a great basketball mind, he's young and high energy, and he has learned and worked with great coaches and staff. IMO OU could do much worse than Boals. He also knows the state so well and he'd be able to continue to recruit high quality players to Athens.

But, I like Boals right where he is over there on the OSU bench myself:D

Coonie you have a bad attitude - surprising at your age:thumbs_down:

This is the business of sports...especially when you land a great coach (like Groce). Groce came to Athens and brought in a good staff, recruited high quality players, won & made the tourney, & got the OU program on the right track to continue to win.

Does it sting when you lose a coach...of course - go ask Thad Matta how he felt when his best friend in coaching and partner John Groce left OSU to go down to Athens....part of the business.

It should sting...OU just lost a great coach. But you shouldn't be angry and bitter at a man that did really good things for Athens and OU. You should wish him well at ILL and thanks him for his contribution to OU.....then go find a quality replacement to continue what Groce has going.

ILL is a big time national bball program and it wasn't long ago they were a top 5 team spanking everybody. It's a huge move up for Groce entering the Big Ten and he will need to get to work.

Interesting to see who OU ends up with as the new head man...especially if the team is pulling for Ford. I know most schools interview players about coaches and take that into account when they make the hire.
