ODNR Division of Wildlife Wins Four National Communications Awards

    The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife recently received four national communications awards from the Association for Conservation Information (ACI).*

    COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife recently received four national communications awards from the Association for Conservation Information (ACI). Approximately 250 entries were submitted by state, federal and Canadian wildlife conservation, parks and natural resource agencies for consideration in 25 different categories.“We are pleased to be recognized at a national level for our communication efforts over the past year,” said Scott Zody, ODNR Chief of the Division of Wildlife. “Our highest goal is communicating with our public efficiently and effectively, and I believe these awards prove we are succeeding.”

    The Ohio Hunting and Trapping Regulations booklet was awarded first place in the Regulations Publications category. Judges noted the ease of use, helpful charts and tables of information as well as the tab system for finding hunting and trapping information.

    “To have our hunting and trapping regulations booklet judged as the top regulations publication in the nation is a point of pride for Ohio,” said Scott Zody, chief of the Division of Wildlife. “Hunting and trapping is vital to the ODNR Division of Wildlife, and we want to help our constituents in this process as much as possible.”

    The Wild Ohio eNewsletter and Wild Ohio Educator eNewsletter earned second and third place respectively in the Electronic Newsletter category. Both newsletters are sent out on a monthly basis and are available free of charge. People may sign up at wildohio.com and receive customized wildlife information that matches their interests.

    The Lake Erie Birding Trail’s website at lakeerieohiobirding.info received third place in the website category. The Lake Erie Birding Trail is a partnership between Ohio Sea Grant and the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The trail spans 312 miles and covers Ohio’s entire shoreline. This website offers comprehensive information for birding at 86 locations along Lake Erie.

    ACI is a non-profit association of professionals representing state, federal and Canadian agencies and private conservation organizations. ACI's membership consists of the information, education and public affairs staffs of state, federal, and Canadian wildlife conservation, parks and natural resource agencies. Many private organizations, corporations and individuals with similar functions also belong and contribute significantly to the organization's mission.
