Agreed with 33 as far as hardware. Load up your vest or tackle box now for the fall run. Unless we get a substantial rain soon, it's not going to get any better. The mild winter and early spring sped things up as far as the spring run goes.

You'll meet guys who swear by this or that. I'd recommend talking to whomever you can on the river or at bait stores for suggestions. Get all the advice you can but, in the end, find what works for you. Steelhead fishing can be very frustrating. Don't give up. That first fish will be unforgettable and you'll be hooked for life. If you can get w/ someone who knows what they're doing and is willing to fish with you, that will be beneficial too.

As far as a rod, I use a 9' noodle rod with 8 lb. test either mono or florocarbon. Whatever you choose, you'll want something with plenty of backbone but good action, too.
