a friend of mine is recomending i get a decelorator recoil pad installed on my 45/70. it will be grind to fit, done by a gunsmith. will this hurt the value of the gun (marlin 1895) down the road if it dosnt have the origional?

I wouldn't worry about changing a currently produced firearm to make it more usable.

Just keep the original pad, as long as no wood is removed it can go back like it left the factory.

I haunt the Marlin Owners web site. We always prefer uncut stocks. Factory configuration rules. That being said, if it is a newer rifle and it recoils alot and you want to shoot it alot, put the pad on it.
