MY SWAG for this season
Going to make some guesses for this season, first of all I'm in east central Ohio so if you're north or south of me expect things to be later north and earlier south. I expect the first two weeks to be the best this year. I've been out for the last week and the gobbling has really tapered off, just a few gobbles at daylight and then a little later on in the morning. I think they are breeding heavy right now and the hens will be disappearing in the near future (nesting) setting off another peak in the gobbling as they look for one more girlfriend. I expect that to start any time now. Likewise more big birds should get whacked earlier this year because of that. Hunting is going to be tougher if you hunt heavy cover because it's going to be real heavy, by the 4th week it's going to be Ugly thick! While the ticks will be a problem (permanone) I haven't been bothered by mosquitoes at all.....so far. I normally like hunting the 3rd and 4th weeks because there are usually a lot of lonesome gobblers and most people have either got their birds or gave up, this year I'm afraid things will pretty much be over by the 3rd week.

I am so looking forward to the early green up. I love thick! The thicker the better. The reason? Our farm spans across one block from one road to the next, a distance of about one mile. In that 1 mile, the elevation change is 9 feet. There are no terrain features anywhere in that 1 mile distance to use as an advantge. We are flat as a pancake. The only thing that lets me move on a turkey is foliage. Give me leaves and lots of them!

Cold and possible rain.......some sites are saying rain while others are not. All sites are consistent saying the lows Monday morning could be in the low to mid 30's. Which means frost! If it does rain, the temps won't get as low due to cloud cover but talk about miserable. Better be in a blind. Hopefully it changes.....most sites are also saying rain all day Saturday.
I just looked at weather it's suppose to be nice the first two days. 10% chance of precipitation on Monday 0 on tues. and Sunday suppose to be nice for scouting. I like cold mornings in my mind the birds are more vocal. My theory is scout you but off know where them birds are roosting and where the are going after the roost. Then I always like to head back

When the rest of you in the state are out hunting on a nice cool sunny Monday morning, think about those of us on the "other" planet that is northeastern Ohio. LOL! 40% chance of rain or snow, which 3 days ahead of time often means near 100%. Looking at the predictions, my guess is they are talking lake affect precipitation which means it usually comes and goes throughout the day. Still, sitting outside in wet snow in the spring is not my pick for opening day weather. There saying its suppose to be super windy here. To be honest I rather hunt in rain. Turkeys can't hear worth a darn in high wind.

I am with you on that! I hate hunting almost everything in high winds. I don't remember them saying anything about wind here. Might be I wasn't paying attention. LOL! Well it is 3 days away and the weather people are wrong often enough about today's weather. I guess it is what it is.There saying its suppose to be super windy here. Something I forgot to add on my SWAG, I expect heavier weights and better beards because of the mild winter. My youth hunter seemed to help prove that, 2 year old bird, weighed 23# 5 oz and had an 11.5 inch beard.
