Well well well, that turned into a fun morning. The rain and snow held off and all I had to deal with was wind. First time I have ever shot a gobbler on opening day. In fact I know I shot a jake or two in the early part of the season back when I first started turkey hunting, but I cannot remember shooting a mature bird in the first two weeks of the season ever. Might have to think about that some more.

The stats:

2 year old gobbler, 20 pounds, 8 1/2 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs.
Remington 870 20 gauge, Hevishot #6 shot
25 yard shot at 11:41am

Want to see couple pictures? You gotta go visit my blog. LOL!

My heart was pounding as I read the story. Time to buy another tag?

The weather made me sleep in monday and I was mad because the weather man was way off.

Tag for bird #2 was already bought before season. This bird was on my own farm so I just checked it in under land owner. Next will be some trips across the road to my neighbor's place. But first I am going to work on getting my muzzleloading shotgun up and working. Then I will probably wait until a weekday or late season because my neighbor's farm is similar to public hunting with everyone that goes over there to hunt.
