On the way home from lunch today, there were 5 ducks on the water where I usually see them. I know there were 1 drake & 3 hen mallards but I’m not sure about the 5th bird. Is it also a color-phased mallard or what? I have never seen a duck with plumage like this. It is the bottom right pic.

On other sites, I have gotten a x between a domestic & a black duck, a cross between a mallard & a shoveler, & a shoveler.

I wish I had a better pic of the head so we could see the bill better. It doesn't look wide enough for a shoveler to me but I'm not real duck savvy

Thx for the feed back.

I thought that until I looked at the bottom left picture. The thing looks significantly bigger than all of the other ones and the bill is wrong. I'm no expert though, very well could be. It's an interesting bird nonetheless. Shoot it and mount it :D

When I first saw the pic, I noticed the bill was bigger than normal and was thinking shoveler, but agree with what someone else posted…cross bred with domestic. Just my 2 cents.
