I don't know the answer but gosh I hope not!
I've been thinking about inviting my brother in law to come with me on a hunt just to observe so I'm also interested in the answer to this.
No they do not need a license as long as they do not aid in the hunt in any way. Before I ever thought I wanted to hunt, mr bluedog wanted me to go with him on the annual family deer hunt. We called the DOW and they said as long as I just sat there and didn't help, I did not need a license. Of course then I got bored so after one or two years of that, I went and took hunter safety course and got my license and I think I needed a deer permit if I remember correctly (I still had never shot a gun). For a couple years I went on the family deer hunt and helped drive deer (not big deer drives, more of soft "pushing" of deer). Then I learned how to shoot and the rest is history.
While not "official", I asked this same question to a wildlife officer. He said that as long as the child was just "observing" not actively involved it would be okay. But walking though the woods "pushing" deer would not be okay.
If in doubt, get a hold of the WO in the county you will be hunting in.
