maybe some have guessed the hocking is my hot spot.and them big ole rivercats are as big as anywher,from athens to stockport.

I came across the above tidbit of Info from a paddle site when I was surfin' streams this afternoon. There was a thread started on the Maumee on here .. if it blows cold again tomorrow & I stay-in I'll surf around & see if I can add to it

not on the hocking river,its much longer and its true name is the hock-hocking but somewhere in the 40-50s was shortend to hocking.

The name given to the Hocking River is a contraction of the Delaware Indian word "Hock-Hocking" which means bottle or jug shaped.

interesting.sunday and monday creek both flow into the hock-hocking...sunday at chauncey,monday at new floodwood,just south of nelsonville.they were named by the 1st explorers coming up the hocking from the ohio out of marrietta.they 1st camped at the mouth of a creek on sunday...called it sunday creek.next day they set sail up the river and they camped at the next larger creek on monday...monday creek.
