Do any of you guys ice fish at night? I didn't get home tonight until after dark and thought I'd try for some 'gils............didn't get anything, although I've never caught any 'gils at night during the summer either.
If you're driving down Gender Rd. across from Delta Marine and see a guy out on the ice............that's me! I'll probably be out most of the afternoon tomorrow. It's atleast 6".
Stop by and fish it you want:cool:

I do

I always fish after dark. I enjoy the piece and quiet and I figure that is the only way I will break the record for saugeye. I just love to catch them shallow on a tip-up. A 3pound or bigger eye in 5fow is a blast with a 6"hole and no rod to play them on. I go after work and set up by 5 and fish till 9 or I go 1/2hour with no hits. it's a little freaky when it's making ice and you by yourself but as long as it's craking your good.

BB, I fished after dark tonight and did ok. Do you use any electronics? I have a Fishing Buddy (portable) and it helps. I'd like to have a vexilar or a camera (emphasis on the camera). They really help. I was catching gills steady until I left the ice at 9pm only because I needed to get home.

Once you find the depth the gills are holding at, drop the bait steady to them and don't jig. After a couple of minutes, lift the rod tip a foot or two and let it float down. If nothing happens after a couple of more minutes let out a foot or two letting it drift down. Continue this until the fish start hitting.

It worked me tonight. I caught about 50 but only 5 were keepers.

I don't have any electronics. I thought about taking one of the finders off my boat and rigging it, but figured we would get a warm spell and I would have wasted my time. They say it's gonna be 51 on Monday:rolleyes:

Hey eyetaker. Help me out. My uncle and I wrote off ice fishing for saugeye last year because we went out about 5 times on great waters that are full of saugeye(Indian Lake, Riley Reservoir) where we have caught nice ones in spring and fall and never caught a one! We never thought about night fishing for them. Got any suggestions. Where do you fish? What depths? What rigs? We have caught plenty of panfish through the ice and have been out on Erie a few times this year. I would really like to figure out these saugeye though. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
