Baiting, in Ohio, should never be centered upon deer hunting ethics, deer hunting ease or deer hunting legality.
I know it never really sinks in but deer are, or were, not the universe afield in Ohio.

I must say tho, that particular gambit of spin works a treat for deer hunters.
So, I reckon, kudos.
The additional spin of baiting versus supporting "hunters" ie "our declining selves, sniff, sniff"....double kudos.
Wrong....but spin matters and sells today....it relieves us of actually considering beyond ourselves.

You really want to be considered a hunter? Dont eat for three days while sitting in a cave somewhere then go try to get a deer by any means necessary. There's always someone willing to go the next step in raising the challenge level.

Just not going to look down on anyone legally hunting. Everyone has their own reason to be out in the woods. Some want the challenge, some want the bragging rights, others want meat in the freezer, and still others want to be in good graces with the landowner for whatever reason. Or a combination thereof.

Personally I don't want to spend anymore money than necessary to get the job done. Baiting doesnt seem conducive to that goal.

"I have issues with other hunters telling me how hunting should and shouldn't be that fits their definition of a fair hunt. If it is legal, it is hunting."

Agree-Hunters should always hunt the way they want and what makes them happy. Others that think others should be criticized for their ways of hunting, should do the same.

just wondering. What would the comments be, if you lived in a stare that did not allow feeders.

I don't see the problem with debating different ways to hunt. At one time, there were no game laws. Market hunters decimated various populations of game animals. But now we have laws. Laws are different from state to state. Laws change over time based on changes in populations, new information about how species need managed and even societal pressures. Just because baiting was all well and good at one time, doesn't mean that it will remain that way forever. CWD is changing the deer landscape. Nest predators are (seemingly) increasing in numbers. Things change. Debate is good.

Exactly this!!! People are quick to say “it’s legal, leave me alone”. That’s fair. And I don’t disagree. But the bigger picture and bigger question is “should it still be legal”. There are many downsides and negative consequences to baiting. Many have been raised here already. It would certainly make a lot of sense to ban baiting for many reasons. Mainly, the health of the deer herd.

Well said. When, I was working, I would shake my head, when, I heard. We, have been doing that for X of years. Times change. What was good to do at one time, does not mean it is good to do now.
