I sent an email to my state rep. questioning the age of the " Free Hunting License ". I may be wrong, but I think I remember that back in the 70's, the age for a free hunting license was 66 or older. I just read the current regs. which state that you now get a reduced fee at that age and do not qualify for a free license until age 85! People who are out hunting at age 85 or older are few and far between IMO. I asked if it was because the state was more interested in getting the sportsmen's money than they are the sportsmen getting out in the field. I told him, IMO, that hunters should get a reduced license fee at retirement ages of 62-69 and a free license at age 70. Probably won't get any consideration, but I still think it's B.S.
I qualify next year for the senior license and tags. I agree with most of your suggestions and have a few more of my own, but it isn't going to change anything.
Pretty happy with just the senior discount myself. Like the discount, but still think I should kick in little something.
