When ever I can, for years,I have been advocating to the Ohio DNR to "allow" hunters to carry concealed or open carry / EXERCISE OUR 2ND AMENDMENT RIGHTS while hunting, especially bow season for self defense without a "paid permission slip"...But has been falling on deaf ears....
Here's another example why I think this an important issue and is ridiculous not to "allow" it in the woods of all places...Thought you might find this interesting and wondered what y'all thought .Again, my home state of W.Va. passed this a few years ago and there isn't anymore issues than before....Here's the story I just got, to address the right to defend your life in the woods that many do not even think about...
WE DONT CARE!!! YOU BEAT THIS CRAP TO DEATH FOR YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS. DONT LIKE IT STAY AT HOME AND PUSH THE COUCH AGAINST THE DOOR AND MAKE A FORT OUT OF PILLOWS TO PROTECT YOURSELF!!!!! OOGGAAA BOOOGAAA THE BAD GUYS ARE COMING FOR YOU!!!
Ohio Law A person possessing a valid concealed handgun license may carry their concealed handgun while hunting and trapping, but it may not be used to shoot, shoot at, or kill any wild animal. For more information, go to the Ohio Attorney General website.
Do whats necessary to assure you return home safely to your family at the of the day. Never knew that about that guy. Theres been some terrible stories here in Ohio over the years. Between antis, and mentally ill people out hunting or poaching you never know. Had a first occurance with a mental wacko out hunting this year that was a big wake up call. Drugs are bad in alot of rural areas I hunt and I'm not getting robbed, shot ect!! Also found a big operation set up out in the sticks this year scouting. I feel good knowing how many of my friends carry.
Not being able to open carry while bowhunting in Ohio, isn't that infringing on our 2nd ammendment rights? When its not legal shooting hours and I'm not "hunting" is a different story.
I've met Jay at outdoor shows and have many of his videos. Never knew this about him. He's lucky to be alive! I've jumped through all of the hoops and got my ccw permit. You never know who you are going to encounter either in the woods or walking to your vehicle in the dark after hunting. Better to have it and not need it......
You don't need any paid permission slip to open carry as long as you follow the laws. Plus, The laws surrounding ccw/ open carry are the same whether you are hunting or not. Ill be shocked if there ever comes a day where a hunter would be allowed to carry in a situation where a non hunting person cannot.
Besides, if one has that big of a concern for their safety, why not just get the permit to carry like the rest of us? I have mine and carry darn near every time I bowhunt.
NOT TRUE, You can not OPEN CARRY or CC without a permission slip while hunting in Ohio.....Many STILL can not afford to "PAY" to exercise their CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT for a permission slips and so called training, and, shouldn't have too, period.
Tell me what is the permission slip and training the criminals go through again? Why do people like you always want to give criminals advantages over law abiding citizens?
Call me a conspiracy theorist, foil hat or what ever, tell that to the people who are attacked, raped, beat half to death and murdered because they were NOT ALLOWED to defend their own lives with the most efficient tool possible. This is not right folks..
And for those who cry to OS to ban my post because someone doesn't want to see or read it is very myopic of you...Snow flakes everywhere....
Deer hunters CANNOT do the following:
Carry a handgun while hunting deer during the deer muzzleloader season and the archery season; have more than one firearm while hunting deer; carry a handgun being used during hunting in a concealed manner. Except as noted above under A Deer Hunter Can Do the Following.
Carry a firearm while hunting deer with a crossbow or longbow. Except as noted above under A Deer Hunter Can Do the Following.

If I come in contact with someone in the woods I am going to assume he has a weapon, even if I don't see one. I know I am even if you don't see it. I learned that years ago while **** hunting
Don't get caught unless you are carrying Concealed with a permission slip...Not even sure if you are allowed to "open carrying" with OC, can they charge you for open carry even with CC?..
I called Athens and the Law Adviser there told me Ohio is a Open Carry State and you can open carry while hunting?
Called Columbus main office and told me she didn't know Any thing about open carry and needed to call the Attorney Generals office and HUNG UP ON ME....
Page 10 and 11 of the OHDNR hand book says you can not open carry... but once again getting conflicting answers or no answers from LEO's and offices.....
I was threatened by a W/O this weekend while rabbit hunting with my contender 410. The firearm was secured in my front vest with the handle fully exposed. He said it was concealed. I said, if it was concealed you wouldn’t see it. I said it is being held with the handle exposed the same as it would be in a holster. My question: Why is it ok to walk the streets of a city with a loaded AR and it is illegal to carry a 410 single shot handgun for rabbit hunting like I was? Maybe next time I’ll take my AR rabbit hunting.

Just another reason why these ridiculous arbitrary rules/laws/regs need repealed. These LEO's can say anything the want and take your 2A rights and your hunting privileges away. It's absurd.. Open carry is legal... But not in woods hunting with another weapon or archery without a CHL in Ohio.. It's asinine!
