It really depends on what they reclaim it with. Regulations may well be improved from when our land was reclaimed. My experience with reclaimed land (ours was done in the 60’s) is that it’s not as fertile as the undisturbed land. We’ve got some areas of slippage and some boggy, loamy areas. A soil scientist dug a few holes for us and some of the soil on top should have been 4’ down. 15 years ago, we had 11,000 trees planted on 90 acres of reclaimed land…about a 1/3 made it…some are only a foot tall today and some are 15 feet tall. Grass, forbes, and browse seem to grow just fine.
