Anyone hunt Morgan or Athens County yet?
I tagged one opening day in Williams County.Have not had a chance to get out yet but will be headed to the spot Friday after work for a Saturday and Sunday hunt and will be greeted by typical soggy weather.
Yes the weather is a big factor right now. Once May hits the gobbler activity should pick up. The hens will be running to the nestWe were out for the opener in Ashtabula County yesterday. It didn't start out to bad but rain set in around 8am. We last until 10am and then got tired of the wind and rain and nothing moving. We did have 6 jakes come by around 7am before the rain started. That was fun to see. They had to be roosted relatively close but they never gobbled on the roost and when they came in, they were totally silent. Did hear one bird gobble about 1/2 mile away but he was in a odd spot and we just decided to stick with a more traditional location.
I'm heading out solo for a bit this morning. Light rain early but heavier stuff later will likely chase me back to the house. We can't hunt past noon until May 8th otherwise I'd wait out the rain.
😂😆🤣1. I'm mentally and physically drained.
2. My arms still feel like jelly 8 hours later.
3. I hate turkeys.
😉😝😂
1st full week of May will be hot. Hens will be nesting and the toms will be looking for love. Keep those box calls in your vest and light calls on slates or diaphragms. My bet is your gonna pop one. 👍Went out yesterday. Birds everywhere in carrol County. They gobble at every call you make but won't leave the hens.
Good luck Cappn. That will be my bucket list trip next spring. Merriam turkeys are the best looking birds in my opinion. Will be headed west after work today and be hunting nebraska by midday tomorrow . Plan is to spend a couple days there before continuing to Montana .
I'll try and post pics and updates along the way .
Very nice 👍Yeah . They sure are pretty.
