I took a short jaunt today mostly to get the old beagle Dottie out that didn't go hunting with the other 2 dogs yesterday. Swapped trail cam cards. Saw my first killdeer of the season. Did a loop around our biggest field and a couple other smaller loops. 2.8 miles. Found 3 Mylar balloons. 0 sheds so far.

Now that the snow is gone took my first shed walk with the pooch today. About a half hour. Nothing. Chalk a mylar balloon up for me too. ;)

I tried to shed hunt a little one day last week. I didn't last long. Found 3 inches of snow covered by a hard crust. Walking was very difficult. Could of used a pair of Bluedogs snow shoes! I hope to get out Wednesday. Gonna be a warm sunny afternoon according to the weather folks.

Went out this morning to walk one of my neighbor's hayfields. This field has been productive for me in the past. Wrong move. That ol wind out of the north was cold and biting. Anytime the wind was in my face, my eyes were watering so bad I could hardly see. I made one pass around the perimeter and headed home. On the way home I did score the mother lode of Mylar balloons. A bouquet of eight. Right now I'm at 11 Mylar balloons and zero sheds. :D

Did some habitat projects and hiking this past weekend on my farm. Found some bone off a couple regulars. Most of the mature bucks had dropped. My friend Keith is holding a set off a buck we glassed up last summer and we were hunting this season. He slipped through all the cracks like the old ones do.

Added four more this morning, up to 10 so far. Most have been found in one general area. Trying to find a giant set that should easily be seen from a mile away but clearly that's not the case.... not much luck in the thickets and creek bottoms, which is where I generally find them. Most sheds have been found along the edges of corn fields and heavily used fencerows.

First 2 sheds of the season and Mylar balloons 12 and 13. 3.6 miles. The sun made it difficult. I walked right by the 2nd shed on the first pass with the sun in my face but found it easily on the walk back with the sun at my back. I much prefer cloudy days for shed hunting but I can't schedule the weather on my days off. LOL

First shed is an old, last year's shed.

3 of us coyote hunted Wayne National Sat night until about 1am. We shed hunted just under 5 hours in 2 different areas with the three of us. We only found a couple year old dead head somebody had sawed off each antler (it was a young buck) and my buddy nearly stepped on a very small 3 point shed from this year. Great scouting intel though and I know where I will be checking in for youth season turkey set up.
