2012/2013 OhioSportsman.com Deer Hunting Team Contest RULES

Welcome to the 2012/2013 Ohio Sportsman Deer Hunting Contest. The rules and format have changed just a bit from last year's contest. If you are at all interested in joining in and being a part of a team be sure to thoroughly read this entire post so you know how it's going to work.

Moderators for this contest- Deehntr56, Schu72, TheCream, Chopiq, Deerhunt45

CONTEST FORMAT

The contest will be run according to Ohio deer seasons from September 29th, 2012 until February 3th, 2013 (including youth season). The picture of your deer must be submitted no later than midnight on February 9th, 2013. The picture must be uploaded to the Ohiosportsman.com picture gallery in the 2012 deer contest category (follow this link- http://www.ohiosportsman.com/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/552 no exceptions.

The 2012/2013 contest will be all inclusive of all seasons and legal weapons. If you legally harvest a deer, it will be scored for your team.

Basically how it will work is:
Each who wants to participate signs up for the contest. There will be a random drawing creating four to six person teams. Members with less than 20 posts at the close of registration will not be included. If a member is successful throughout the course of the deer season, they can submit their kill for contest scoring.
The number of entries will determine the final number of people on a team and number of teams. Each team will have their "own" thread.

2011/2012 Winning Team will be allowed to return intact to defend the title.

Take a Youth Hunting Bonus

If you take a youth Deer hunting this season (under 16 years old), and you can document the hunt with photo and a short narrative of the hunt, we will score it as 5 bonus points for your team. The youth hunt is strictly for deer hunting-no other youth hunt qualifies. This "scoreboard" will have its own thread where you will post. The photo will include the team member and the youth they took hunting. Include a short story about the hunt. The hunt does not have to result in a kill. That is not what it's all about. We realize someone could "stage" something to collect 5 points, but since it is a for fun contest and requires a photo and a story, I don't think anyone will bother. The point is to acknowledge getting youth involved in our passion.

As usual, any current youth member of Ohiosportsman.com with a minimum of 20 posts is welcome to sign up to be on a team.

ONE youth hunt entry per member for the contest is allowed.

DIRECTIONS

This contest will include only legal wild Whitetail deer taken during the 2012/2013 Deer season in Ohio.

If you have a successful hunt, submit your deer for scoring by completing the following (if any steps are missed or incorrect your deer WILL NOT count!!!):

1- Take a picture w/ you and the entire deer. (Not just the head!) Displaying the weapon used is optional.

2-Upload your deer to the Ohiosportsman.com 2012 Ohio Deer Contest Photo Gallery (i.e. photobucket or similar links will not count) along with the following information:

A- Title the picture: Team#_Type of deer_

B- In the body you MUST fill in the following fields:

Your Name(Your real name or OS username is acceptable).
Your team name and number
Sex of the deer
Your Ohio Deer Tag Number (assigned by the DOW)
The number of tines that are longer than 1 inch (main beam counts) - (If 1 inch tine is questionable supply a photo with a measurement against the tine for verification.)
Date the deer was taken.

3-Post your picture in the thread titled: 2012/2013 OS Deer Hunting Contest Photo Entry and supply the same information from #2 (above) below your picture.

4-(Optional) Post the picture of you and the deer somewhere in your team thread to let them know of your success.

SCORING:

Each hunter will be allowed to submit 1 antlered and 1 antlerless deer or 2 antlerless deer.

*Added update 10.8.12- NOTE- Once you submit 2 deer, you are at the contest limit(as noted above) and cannot submit another deer. You cannot exchange a deer for another deer once you submit your deer! WE HIGHLY Recommend, that if you shoot a 2nd doe and you are hunting for a buck- YOU HOLD- The 2nd doe until later in the contest to submit. You have until February 10, 2013 to submit your deer, so you have time to do that.

Antlerless (ANY deer with antlers of LESS than 3 inches in length) = 5 points
An antlered deer will l= 5 points + the number of tines one inch or longer.

Scoring will be kept in the Scoreboard thread and will be updated about every week or two as new posts arrive in the successful hunter thread. Keep in mind we are hunters too- and will be out hunting during the season. We will do our best to keep it updated throughout the deer season.

Keep in mind that this contest is for fun and should never be taken too seriously. Remember your participation is voluntary. As we go deeper into this we surely will find discrepancies as well as unforeseen circumstances that may appear to hinder any one person or his/her team. While we will do our best to reasonably accommodate any governing abnormality that may arise we can't guarantee everyone's complete satisfaction. Please remember that each case will be judged individually and given the same consideration regardless of who is requesting.

Note- A Deer shot earlier in season and found a "period of time" later and in poor identifiable condition-does not fit the current rules and will require review by the moderators of this contest. You must submit a request in writing(via email or pm) to the moderators to review this exception.

If anyone wishes to dispute another person's entry, You will have seven days from the date of entry, Any disputes are to be sent to one of the 5 mods listed above via email or private message.

The group of moderators handling this contest have agreed to handle any disputes that may arise, and their decision will be final!

Likewise this group will be reviewing all entries, if we see something that needs further explanation we will contact the individual and request the info.

Lastly we are working on some prizes for this year. We will announce if and when we are able to acquire any for the contest. Since this contest is mainly for fun and "bragging rights", the prizes are a bonus. If prizes are acquired-the site administrator will determine how they will be distributed.

Have a great season and Good luck to all the participants!

Moved information below from the MUST READ thread to here on 9.28.12-

MUST READ-ALL 2012 Deer Contest Participants!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just A few thoughts on this year's Deer Hunting contest I want to share with all participants. Based on the number of entrants so far we are going to have a large amount of "players" to participate this year. It looks like at this point teams will have 6 participants per team.

We have some concerns that I want to make everyone aware of (based on past experiences)-

1. Make sure everyone reads and follows the Rules- http://www.ohiosportsman.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=53978 that are posted and any new rules and postings that occur moving forward. Your effort in this regard will keep errors at a minimum and the contest running smoothly this fall. With quite a few new members entering this year, knowing the rules will keep the contest positive and fun.

2. To all the NEW Members signing up- and this applies to all members with less than 50 posts and all members as well that have entered the contest. We are planning on posting the teams on September 10, 2012(Later in the day). YOU WILL NEED to report to your team by Midnight September 18, 2012! YOU MUST SIGN IN on your team thread by Midnight September 18, 2012 so your team knows you are not missing and you are actively participating. YOU signed up to be an active participant in the contest, and the expectation is that you will be participating with your team. PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOUR INTENTION IS NOT TO STAY IN TOUCH AND PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST- That would not be fair to the other participants on your team. It also wastes the spot someone else would have had who would have participated.(Yes this has happened in the past and that is why we are covering now).

3. REMEMBER- We are doing this for YOU and want you all to have a good time with it. It's imperative that if you enter the contest- you are signing up to join a team and participate in it throughout the contest, and to follow the rules. We- the moderators- will do everything we can to keep it enjoyable as long as you do your part. This contest was put together many years ago by many requests of the members and our expectation is that those that sign up will actively participate. It's about having some fun-make new friends and talking about and showing others your harvest success as well as sharing your ideas and experiences and of course- bragging rights to the winners.

4. NEW RULE ADDED- IF an entrant does not show up for their assigned team once the team is determined, and sign into his/her team thread by Midnight September 18, 2012, then that entrant will be banned from any OS contest for 1 year and his spot will be given to an alternate(if available). If the entrant does not periodically keep in touch with their team members and actively participates throughout the contest (unless they are tagged out), then that entrant will be banned for 1 year from any future OS Contest. ( These new rules are to ensure there is a team effort and to help minimize potential issues with other team members when someone signed up and then disappeared and didn't contribute.) No alternates will be assigned after the season starts on September 29, 2012.

5. Read the rules thoroughly for the reporting of your harvest on the harvest thread when posted. This is one area where many mistakes have happened in the past, and where many moderators spent a lot of time trying to have the entrant correct. YOUR ability to follow the rules and reporting process in this part of the contest (along with everywhere else) is critical in minimizing the amount of work we have to do to correct AND eliminate confusion!!!!

6. These revisions ensure the participants that do enter will have the best opportunity to enjoy the contest at its fullest. It helps all of the members that do sign up, have the confidence that the members that signed up and are assigned to their team understand the rules of the "game". If someone ignores the rules as noted, then the participants left will have the ability to regroup and enjoy the contest as it was intended.

7. If after reading this information above, and if you want to give your spot up to someone who will use it properly-PM me and I'll remove your name, so others have time to sign up and enjoy it. So-have fun and enjoy and if you have any questions feel free To PM a mod that is involved in the deer contest below! Remember- This Contest is strictly for fun and bragging rights, enjoy and have a good time!

Regarding the youth hunt bonus. I have a 9 yr old daughter that would like to go hunting with me but she's not ready to be behind the trigger (crossbow). I'm planning to take her out regardless but I'm curious if it counts for points if she's not going to be shooting at any deer even if they come into range.

As noted above- Having your daughter in the stand with you and having those memories- goes a long way.

REMINDER- As noted above in the rules!!!!

Each hunter will be allowed to submit 1 antlered and 1 antlerless deer or 2 antlerless deer
We wanted to post an update to clarify a rule in the contest so we don't have any issues going forward.

NOTE- Once you submit 2 deer, you are at the contest limit(as noted above) and cannot submit another deer.

To date (10/8/12) we have one contestant that submitted two deer, and we will give him the option of pulling one out and holding if he likes-but going forward that option will not be allowed as noted above.

Hope this clarifies the above.

Thanks-

OS Moderators.
