Ok so data collection can start in our house as far as I'm concerned!! At the end of this season I would like to have our own numbers on public land deer sightings per hunt, and success rate percentages for O.S members at least!! So here it is! BWOTA can start this off, I know he is in the Wayne right now!! It's simple I need number of deer sightings per hunter and I need a post each day you are in the woods, let's keep it's simple for our first year and post like this!! hunted public land today BWOTA
Two guys four hours
Three deer sightings!!
And list any bucks seen that are 140 plus!!
At the end of the season I will add up all our sightings, get an estimate on public land numbers in our neck of the woods at least!!! When you are successful at harvesting, post a pic please so we can put those numbers in and get a better feel of hunter success rates for O.S members on public land!! If you will help me collect the data, we can paint a better picture for all the private land hunters'!!!
1-24-17 - 3 Hours. Nada. Fairfield County Public.
1-27-17 - 6 Hours: Rained all day. Didn't see anything. Morrow County Public.
1-28-17 - 8 Hours: Nothing at all. Saw some driving out 20 mins after dark. Very nice day. Delaware/Morrow Public
I appreciate all in here giving up their info!! I will try to have all our data combined within a week or so of the end of season! Probably after the deer contest is taken care of!!
2/3/18 - Alum Creek Public - Found a bunch of deer beds. Nothing on foot today. 6 hours.
2/4/18 - Morrow/Delaware Public - Spooked a buck around Noon on the way in. No matter; can't shoot bucks. Saw 4 pheasants; other less interesting birds. Watched a field till dark from the treeline. Decided to sit and wait cause it's the last day of the season and I was grumpy. 7 deer come out after dark; including the one I spooked earlier. *notes for next year*
and so my watch has ended and Coyote season begins!
Gonnna continue this for 2018. Let's see how things change season to season. New public land regs might increase sightings, especially later in the season?
1 antlerless. Public. 3 hours.
(Saw 6 on private, 2 before sunrise on drive in and 4 on the acorns at 10:30 am.)
Tar Hollow
Saturday: 6 hours of sitting and no sightings. Saw one doe on drive back to camp
Sunday: 4 hours of sitting. Saw 1 doe sitting and one 8 point buck on the drive to hunt
Thanks for the link BWTA.
My season pretty much ended after Oct. 5-6 weekend. Baby girl born on 10/13 kinda puts a hold on hours in the stand. May not fill a tag this year, but couldn't be happier!
