Crossbow broadheads

I have religiously used Muzzy 3 blade 100 grain broadheads for the last 20 or so years. It just seems that sometimes even with a good shot the deer goes further than I think it should. Good example is the last doe I shot was only about 15 yards away and I was on the ground shooting at her. The bolt was a pass through. It was a perfect shot right behind the shoulder blade, I couldn't have walked up and stuck the bolt any better. AT first I found some bright red bubbly blood not a lot but enough to track fairly easy but about 75 yards the blood just slowed to a trickle. I could track her but times I lost the trail and finally had to go back the next day to find her. Never found the blood just sprayed all over. I finally found her but it was like 250-300 yards away. This is not the first time I had this happen so I'm thinking next year switching to a different broadhead. My brother uses rages and every deer he shoots just sprays the blood and the deer drops pretty quick. He did mention they have crossbow broadheads. Anyone ever use them or have any suggestions on a broadhead?

I love NAP killzones or spitfire, they make both those heads for crossbows. Im not a rage guy, I dont want to rely on a rubber o-ring to keel head flying tight.

I would say use something mechanical, you got plenty of horsepower.

Some guys say schwackers are good for crossbows.

No complaints using NAP Spitfire 100 grain for about 10 or so years.
Even when I've had less than perfect shots they dropped quick. Shot a 3.5 yr old buck in the ass(not intentionally) this year and he was down with in 30 yds...i was kinda amazed. Assumed a hit to the femoral artery.

I️ use the Rage 2 blade 100 grain crossbow X broad heads. They use a shock collar. My crossbow shoots roughly 400 FPS. Never had any issues. Deer I️ shot this year went 40 yards and piled up. The rage even went through the shoulder on the opposite side. It bent one of the blades, but what do you expect when a broad head goes through a shoulder blade.

Also a big 2 blade rage fan. I've shot a ton of deer with them. Always performed even on marginal shots. The blood trails from this years deer were unreal. Like a red carpet all the way to your deer. I won't shoot anything else.

I shoot the rage crossbow hypodermic. The buck I killed this year was at 22 yds, I hit him right behind the shoulder and literally knocked him sideways. He let a loud grunt and ran 35 yds and went down. I didn't get a pass thru, which I thought was odd. The arrow was still in him when I walked up to him, upon field dressing we found the broadhead broke a rib on the entrance and broke a rib on the exit side. (When I say broke I mean cut the rib in half on both side.) The broadhead stayed together, no bent blades. It was poking thru the hide on the exit side...we were very impressed. The deer field dressed 260# and scored 177"

I tried those this year and mine flew 5 or 6 inches high. I then switched to the rage hypodermic. The doe I shot this year went about 3 yards. The buck I shot went 150 yards with a very bad high shot at the top of his shoulder. I love these broad heads and there chisel type tips. I think they would penetrate bone better than the standard rages

I used Muzzy MX-4s (The 4 Blade Muzzy) on my crossbow, 100gr, sounds like you hit the same shot as me. Mine was about 10-15 yards away. My buck only went about 15-20 yards after a similar shot, fell over, picked up its head twice and expired. Xbow was a Barnett Wildcat Extreme. Maybe give those a try?

catchdog, no pics of the shot. I've had a few deer in the last 20 years that shouldn't have gone as far as they have or just not finding a good blood trail with Muzzys. Sounds like I need to look into Rages for next year, thanks everyone for opinions.

For the doe you found, what vitals did it actually go through. A truly good shot, no matter what you tip it with is gonna go down pretty quick! I also used what you're using for the longest time. I went to G5 T3s I believe they are when I went to a compound and never looked back. While they don't have the 6" cut a rage gives, a well placed shot and they won't go more than 50 yards. I will say the smaller cutting diameter does make it take a few yards for the blood to start flowing so you wanna make sure you pay attention to where it's heading. We did a wounded warrior hunt the first week of November. One of the guys was using them on his xbow for the first time, hit a doe and was nervous bc he didn't find good blood near his arrow. Told him not to fret if it was a good shot. Sure enough we found a red carpet 20 yards in and she only went 50 yards.
