Kind of quiet on our board so far.
Went out this morning, had them gobbling, then shot up. They appeared 20 minutes later 200 yards across the field. After coaxing them, they closed the gap to about 100 yards then headed into the brush.
They gobbled at yelps, nothing else. As they got closer, a hen intercepted them, and it was game over.
Going to try again tomorrow........

Good morning gents, up and getting ready to walk back into the woods to start my season. Remember to put your phone on silent , yep personal experience, lesson you'll never forget. Anyway, hope that this year will be better that last, either way I'm excited about getting out with the anticipation of hearing something gobble! Happy Hunting Y'all, Be safe and have fun.

Monday, Birds were gobbling like crazy on the roost. they flew down and showed up at the other side of the field. I called to them, and they slowly made it halfway or so, then cut back into the thicket where they came from. Then they started gobbling just out of sight, they usually would have either come into the field, or through the woods, but not this time. They finally went off in the other direction.

Tuesday, it was cooler, and there wasn't all the gobbling the day before. I sat up where the birds had shown up before, but today, they were spread out in the river bottom and didn't have to much to say. However, there was 1 bird, behind me, that gobbled every couple minutes or so. He made his way from across a field and was 40 or 50 yards behind me and to my right.
Next thing I knew he was going away from me and was on my left shoulder. Oh well, it was exciting. Then to my surprise there he was, in the field I was on, stairing my decoy down. He made his way around, making a half circle staring at the decoys, gobbling and strutting. He never got closer, and eventually he disappeared into the brush.

I think I'm going to hit tomorrow seeing how the weather is looking thru Tuesday.

Good Luck

Sorry been out hunting and haven't checked in. Missed a couple birds Thursday, must have bumped the red dot in the truck or something. But yesterday scored on a tom with 7 7/8" beard and 7/8" spurs. Weighed 17 pounds. Nice two year old. Will be posting in scoring thread here shortly.

Congrats on the bird. Been out chasing birds too still no luck. Have had several respond to the calls just none want to come and play. Be out after them again tomorrow morning. Hopefully won't get as wet as I did today. Did see alot out in fields tho just couldn't get on them.

Down in the Southern part of Ohio, they just weren't gobbling either. We were sitting on a field bordered by a rye field. They all, including toms and hens came in quiet. Even the bird I got never made a gobble. Just silently strutted in after I got his attention.....maybe the big one was keeping them all quiet! Over to Cambridge Tuesday to try for number Two!

Congrats to the scorers. this has been a tough year. Was down at my 2 sons place near
Athens, hunted a few days, and came back with what I left with. The birds just don't seem to want to work. To many hens? Too many calls? To much calling? Not enough calling? Calling to early? Calling to late? To much rain? To warm? To cold? To windy?
Feel free to add to the excuse line............

Well was out last week and had one come in to within 45 yards but wouldn't commit. I was out this week, all day on Tuesday and morning on Wednesday. Gobbles in a distance but they are not hot any more. Going out again one day next week and try some mid-day late season tactics.....we shall see if they pay off!

Well guys my season is done.....Moving into a new house and new job so can't spend anymore time in the woods. Was out today trying some late season tactics but nothing. I would have had two if I would have checked my scope before my first hunt......all in all it was a good season!

I learn something new every year. I think I like hunting till noon more than later in the day. And take the shots when they present themselves and verify your pattern on a scope when you travel........good luck and hope you get yourself one. Got one and my own fault missed two others.....so all and all, it has been a great season!
