What whitetail deer hunting means to you
Ok, i want to get serious for a minute and ask you all what does whitetail deer hunting really mean to you? For me its about getting away from everyday life and not having to worry about how i'm going to have my surgery done without any insurance. Like i have said many times before i'm not out to kill monster bucks, if one decides to walk by then so be it, but i'm not one of those type hunters that goes out walking through the woods trying to get lucky and harvest a big buck. I love deer hunting and i take all the precautions to get deer in front of me, so i'm not the guy who messes other hunters up but anyway deer hunting is also putting some food on the table for my family. I just hate when people try to make it a competition, that is what deer hunting is not about and these days it seems to become more and more of a competition about who can kill the biggest buck and i think that has put a big black eye on the sport that i truly love.

I tell you what. Deer Hunting is my passion, it is something that I do with my dad and my buddies and I love. I try to introduce others in to the sport every year. Its a time to make peace with myself, to get closer to god, and to enjoy nature..........as well as get away from the screaming kids for a while. LOL
I Love to bow hunt, gun hunting isn't as exciting to me at all. I would rather shoot a doe with a bow than a buck with a gun.
I love hunting, being with my dad, and my friends. I have met some really good friends through this sport and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

To me whitetail deer hunting is a means of being able to relate and cope with the outdoors in a way that most cannot. It allows me to experience a variety of different things that most non-hunters are not able to put into perspective. It gives me time away and a sense of relief from the everyday world. There is something special about being 20ft high in big oak tree just watching as the woods comes a live and everything begins to transpire. Hunting whitetails is both a passion and obsession of mine that I have had ever since I set foot into the woods at age 8 with my grandfather. It allows memories to be made and stories to be told and that is something that no one can take away. I must say some of my most memorable times in my life as a whole were created through the outdoors/whitetail deer hunting.
I do in a sense take whitetail deer hunting as a competition BUT NOT against fellow hunter and friends. I see it as a competion between the deer and I. It is like playing a big 365 day a year chess game. I put a lot of hard work into the deer woods and I like everyone else likes to be successful. I set forth goals in the spring and summer months that I try and meet throughout the fall. As far as the chase and the challenge of harvesting a big mature whitetail, honestly to me their is nothing comparable.

I love that leafy woody smell of a 40 degree fall moring. That is my favorite smell in the world..I love how your always listening for that staedy crunch of a walking deer and how even though squirells and other things keep you on edge when you hear a deer there is no doubt what it is.

For me deer hunting is a passion and a lifestyle. Its a chance to step into the wilderness and leave everything behind for a while. I'm a college student entering my fourth year at Ohio Northern University. When I'm in the woods I can leave the cares and worries of the "real world" behind. When I'm sitting in the stand everything is right in the world, I dont have to stool over how I'm gonna come up with tuition money, that exam next week can wait til after I'm out of the woods, the only relationship that concerns me is the relationship between my butt and the stand seat.
For a breif moment we enter the wilderness and leave the world behind. Knowing that we hunters have a skill and ability to provide for ourselves through mother nature is something that I get satisfaction from. We are able to do things that others aren't or can't do, but the beauty of it is it's something that we can pass on and teach others. My dad taught me to hunt, and I hope to pass on my knowledge of deer hunting and hunting in general to my children. Thats what I love about deer hunting and thats what the sport meens to me.

Deer hunting to me is like the worst addiction in the world. And honestly someday I believe it will cost me my marriage. My wife has no problem with hunting, and I love my wife deeply, but it is obvious that the time, effort, and passion that I put into deer, blows away what I put into my marriage. Wow that was hard to write. Im an addict.
Anyone else feel this way?

Yes. I told my wife in one of our heart to hearts a while back that I'd leave her before I would quit hunting altogether. I went on to explain that I feel in my heart I'd have an easier time living without her than I would without hunting. Fortunately, I have an amazing wife and she actually understands where I am coming from, although I think she disagrees with it. I am one of the few guys with a wife that gives me no static about anything, let alone hunting. I'll never find another women that can be the kind of wife as Tracie is to me. But with that being said, I'd be a single, lonely, hardcore hunting sum beech if she ever decided it was hunting or her. And that's not macho guy talk. I leaned long time ago that no women is worth giving up on the things that mean the most to you. (Disclaimer: We don't have kids and that will undoubtably change my point of view.)
The last time I expressed those feelings here, I took a bunch of BS from a few bleeding hearts on here. Stick it this time boys. I heard you last time...
