J, that definitely had to be a heartbreaker of a time. I am so glad your Penny is back home with you and hopefully on her way to a full recovery.

i dont know if any one mentioned this in a previous post , cause i skipped to the end to see if she made it home, but when i was running beagles i had male i baught from a guy in texas , this dog would not open up till he seen the bunny, i almost shot him a few times thinking he was the bunny cause he was always ahead of the pack , one way i kept from doing that was putting a bell on him , i ended up putting bells on all my dogs , pretty easy to keep track of a dinging bell , hoope she pulls through with no problems from her ordeal

Worst part of this is he's been out with us hunting six or seven times and he feeds the dogs when my buddy or I is out of town. We usually have the bells on them but couldn't find them before we went out. And it's probably only the third or fourth time in five hears we haven't had the bells on them. And unfortunatley this is what happened.

you can take more than one deer per day as long as each deer has been tagged with a tempory tag before hunting for next deer.

Yeah she was outside for some time today engjoying the sunbathing lol. It's good to be able to laugh about stuff. I've had to put dogs downbefore due to age and illness but this by far the hardest thing to go through with my other dogs we knew what was coming but with this it was just so quick that you go into action mode first then after you get her to the Vets and things start to calm down then the emotions come out. It wasn't untill I saw the xrays that the extent of the damage it's amazing how much a twenty pound dog can take.

If you don't mind me asking J, where was she injured? I remember you said 6 or 8 pellets were in her.
All the best.

The xray was of the chest area only. So it showed the lungs to see if just one or both lungs were affected so it just showed her front half so to speak and the xray showed roughly six to eight pellets in or around the lung areas. With one puncturing it. They never did any xrays of her hind end since she was facing the shot and showed no major trauma back there. But it was very sobering seeing all that shot up there on the screen. We origanally thought one maybe two pellets but to see that many in the lung area scared the heck out of me and I thought I was already scared. It brought tears to my eyes. The vet did tell me that he has xrayed a lot of animals over the years and have found shot in them and the owners had no clue they had ever been shot. If the guy who shot her had been a stranger I think I could deal with it better but to know him fairly well and to have been hunting with him that much just bugs the heck out of me. I can barely talk to without wanting to take a swing at him. But what does that actually accomplish? A sore hand and medical bills when I have to pay for him. I don't know just. Infused
and frustrated I guess. I do appreciate all of your concern though you'll never know how much it
means. Thanks. "J"

No problem at all J glad I could be of some use . Just glad to hear she is doing better and on the road to being back in the game. I can't imagine how frustrated and angry you are. I commend you for keeping a cool head and not going at the guy. God knows I probably would have. Just have to take one day at a time and see what happens. Hang in there buddy it is going to be a journey for sure.

Have been away from computer all weekend and just read this thread. What a terrible ordeal you went through. I know I hit sad, mad, and happy in just reading it. Can only imagine what it was like to really go through it. I am glad it is ending on an upbeat note.
Goodluck with her continued recovery. My Belle dog sends her best!
