Big Buck Down! Look at this old warrior!

I took a massive old buck yesterday. Saw 3 does, a yearling 8 point, and then a dandy young 10 after I had shot this buck and was waiting to get down. He came charging in after I did a knock down drag out rattling, grunting, and snort-wheezing sequence. I was hunting a super thick creek bottom between standing corn and soybeans- and did not see how busted up he was when he came in. He was wide and massive and that's about all the time I had to judge him. Let the arrow fly at 13 yards. Waited 40 minutes to get down then got down. Looked for my arrow for a few minutes then followed a good blood trail. The deer was laying less than 50 yards away on his side. This is where it got interesting.... I walk up behind him and as I usually do said "Hey Buck". Well he jumped up faced me at about 10 feet away. To say I was startled would have been an understatement. He was coughing blood and wobbled backwards and sat on his butt. I let another arrow fly and hit him in the base of the neck down through the chest to finish him. He was so broken up I thought he had been hit by a car.

He has 14 points but 5 are broken off. 20 inch spread with 24" left main and 22 1/2" main beam. Bases were 5" and 4 1/2". His jaw was jacked up and probably broken and his right eye almost swelled shut. Field dressed 199 lbs. and his teeth were wore to nubs. At the check station they aged him at 6 1/2-7 1/2 years at least. I was disappointed at first that he won't score well, but after sleeping on it I am proud to have taken such a mature deer. He is the biggest bodied deer I have ever taken- measured 6'1" from nose to tail.

WOW, Nice buck!! Congrats.

To bad the one side is all broken off. Kind of strange to see all of those broken like that. Wonder what happened to the ole guy?

Man, I don't care if both antlers were broke off at the brow tines, that deer is a trophy. All those years of out-smarting hunters and you out-smarted him.....good job.

Initial shot was quartering away hit back of ribcage and came out behind opposite leg. Took out his liver and back of the right lung. When I walked up on him after waiting 40 mins and then blood trailing him he was still alive and jumped up facing me. I put a finishing shot through the base of the neck into the chest.
