PA Buck
I tried posting a picture with this thread, but could not do it. I just put the photo in the Photo Gallery (stinger - Ben 2009 Buck 01). If someone wants to add the picture feel free. The photo of the deer is from the Pittsburgh area on public land where the hunting pressure is quite heavy. I only hunt in these types of areas when I have a chance to get out during the week. On Saturdays (regulations do not permit Sunday hunting in PA) there are simply too many hunters around and it is not worth wasting a day watching a hunter walk up to your stand for a chat.
Anyway, the deer have really been on the move the past few days. I was unable to get out on Saturday due to kids activities and Halloween, so I was really pumped for Monday morning. At first light I had a spike walk directly under my stand and about 10 minutes later I had a very small 8 point cruise by. It was fairly quiet until about 9:00 a.m. when a giant mature doe (one of the biggest I have ever seen) walked out of the thicket followed by a first year doe. This doe was so big, it was very difficult not to shoot her. But at this time of year, such a doe can be your best friend. I let her walk and about 20 minutes later, the deer in the picture stepped out of the thicket on the same trail the big doe had used. He was at about 12 yards but facing my tree. I waited and he turned broadside but there were trees blocking his vitals. He then turned and began walking directly away from me. I was a little nervous, especially when I mouth grunted and he continued walking. I then mouth grunted quite loud and he finally stopped and turned ever so slightly offering me a nice quartering away shot. I took the shot and he immediately took two large jumps back into the thicket. He flicked his tail a couple of times and went up on his back legs and fell over. He got back up charged through the brush for about 10 yards and fell down for the final time about 30 yards from my stand.
What made the morning even better was that while I was field dressing the deer, I heard a twig snap and looked up and saw two more shooters coming down the same trail. Then, about 5 minutes later, another shooter also came down the same trail. The last three bucks came through well after 10:00 a.m. All in all it was a great morning and it goes to show how the bucks can survive even in heavily pressured areas.
I a couple of days planned for a hunt in Ohio in about 10 days. I hope the rut is in full swing then since I have limited opportunities to hunt in Ohio this year. Things like kids activities and work tend to take priorities.

All I did was found your pic and then scrolled down to the little boxes below the pic and highlighted the text inside the box that says
Forum Image Code: Then I just copy and pasted it into the thread.

Thats an awsome buck for anyplace let alone public land. Grats to you on a fine buck. The story of the hunt was good as well . I have noticed that public land deer tend to move later in the morning just because of hunting pressure. They have learned most hunters give up by 9:30 -10 o'clock and are gone from the woods. Just keep a lid on where you got him and you might be able to sneak back to that spot next year and crack one of the other bucks you seen . Good luck on your hunt here and hope you get another dandy buck .

Forgot to mention
I felt like I was in Ohio when I walked up and saw the body on this deer. While the rack on this deer was not giant, it was definitely the biggest bodied deer I have harvested.
I also found out I am also getting too old to be dragging deer up and down hills without assistance. I had to drag it about 500 yards and a significant portion was up hill. Ridiculous!

Great buck! Great story! 32 isn't old! I passed that a couple years ago. As long as I am out hunting, riding the motorcycles, and having fun, I do not plan on getting old fellas. The number might change, but I am not getting old!

Hey stinger nice job on that buck. I too hunted Monday morning public land outside of Pittsburgh except I only saw two does about 30 minutes after sunrise . Stayed on my tree until 11am but did not see anything else.
You must be hunting a different public land because I know that I was the only hunter in those woods that morning .
