I was sent this pic this morning of a huge road kill buck that might be a new state record typical. Don't know the guy in the pic but was told it was killed in the Middletown area near Walmart by a vehicle. Talk about MASS out the A$$ with lots of CLASS! He's def got a typ. configuration but can't see enough of his right side to see if he's got side to side symmetry. State Record? We'll see in the future. Don't know if this is the buck some people heard was killed by a semi near Monroe or not. There isn't but 5 to 7 miles or so between the two towns.:coolgleamA: He looks too uneven and alot of abs to be a record deer but this thing is definitely worth looking at and talking about.

I had a great week in Kentucky hunting the Cumberland Mountains with my cousins. I took this 10 point buck on Sunday 11/15 with my rifle (Remington Model 700 in 7mm Rem Mag/Federal Premium Nosler ballistic tip 150 grain) at 88 yards cruising across the saddle I was hunting between 2 ridges. I have been blessed and have had a great year.

first i am not relating this to hunting over bait or am i singling out any one person...this is something i've noticed over the last 5 years...just a lot of things adding up to taming of deer...examples...in just the last couple years i have had deer walk right up to me during gun season...within 5 yds. and i'm in an orange vest out in the open...last yr. 2 deer walked up to me during the snow...i was very visable in the orange vest.they were within 5 yds. of me and stayed for a long time...one a young doe actually tracked me to where i was...the buck walked right up to me,also a young deer...i did remain motionless but did make a noise with my mouth like when trying to get a dog or cat to come to you...the bucks ears popped up but thats all...finally he walked away as did the doe...then i see the thread by chopig...and i see fred t's...and to top it off there is some places on the wayne where non hunters have feeders...deer are in the front yard at one of these places.we slowed down there last weekend and some of the deer approached our car.got very close.two of the feeding places are very close to where i had the encounteres with the buck and doe last yr...just wondering about some others here what they think about this...i do know i am not into killing deer that just walk up to me like this...are we taming the deer by feeding them and getting them to accept us...it seems this feeder craze has also caught on with non hunters big time...again this is not directed toward anyone or even saying theyre doing a terrible thing...what you think...:D

Say a buddy makes a bad hit on a deer on an evening hunt.. He tracks for a few yards and with the sign not looking good he decides to back out for a while...

He gives the deer about 5 hours and a bunch of guys head out to pick up the track.... It is now 10:00 pm.. Due to the coyotes in the area it's a guarantee the deer will be torn to heck by morning.... Every time someone has not found a deer until the morning, it's dang near gone..

Tracking is slow and the blood is spotty... Uphill about 300 yards then levels off crossing the face of the hill.. Another few hundred yards the deer is bedded at the base of a tree but looks dead... After everyone walks up to the deer we realize she is still alive.....

What now?

Nobody has a bow because it's like 11:30 at night....
We can't shoot her in the head with a sidearm to finish her off.. That's illegal on 2 fronts, hunting after hours and shooting a deer with a gun..
We can't leave her, and hate to see her suffer..

If you finish her off.. Do you lie and write 5pm as the kill time on your tag?

Or do you stand around watching her suffer until she finally dies..

Pulled the cams today. Part of me wishin I still had my buck tag to go after this guy. This is my first year hunting this new property and having cams out. We've had pictures and sightings of two different bucks with clear traces of piebald in them, but no where near the markings of this guy. Its hard to gauge how big his rack is, but would be a fun to see from the tree. Piebald genetics definitely running in the area.

Hello all, I am a diehard bowhunter trying to plan a trip to Ohio next fall. Im just looking for info on best public areas or any tips on private(which I know is a long shot.) I plan on bringing the tent and climber and working hard at seeing some nice bucks. Thought it would be fun to get away and hunt somewhere new for a week. Any info would be appreciated. Might have lined up some hunting at a church camp south of Ashland . Anyone know anything about it? Apparently its huge and is well sought after hunting grounds in the area. Well thanks for any information. Im already looking forward to next fall.
A wonderful relationship with my family
Almost 1 1/2 years done with school
The best best friends and a certain someone
Health and safety through the year

And a week off from school so that I can spend time with my family, do some hunting, and some good old fashion work.

Lots to be thankful for this year, this is just a start.

Well, my 9 year old has been out shooting with 20 guage high brass bird shot and doing fine. I took him to the range yesterday to shoot slugs and he freaked out. The sight of the slug, I guess, made him really nervous and didn't want to shoot. He was SO excited for his first deer season and now he is unsure of himself. We are down to one day now for him to shoot slugs.
Any advice for me as to what may ease his fear?
I definitely don't want to rush him into hunting and discourage him. However, I know how excited he was until yesterday and I feel bad for him.
