Ive spent a lot of time and money this year chasing these birds, and at this point it has been to no avail. I am debating taking friday afternoon and all day saturday to go to woodbury or somewhere else public because I have had no luck on my private land and people aren't exactly generous with sharing their land. Does anyone have any tips on how hunting has been there, or anywhere else that is public? I really want nothing more than to shoot a bird. A 9lb jake with 1/16 inch spurs, and a 2 inch beard would make me the happiest person in the world at this point.

ready to be brought into this world.

Since Sunday, I have seen the mature does by me here chasing their faws from last year away(Typically the Buck Yearling), so they can prepare for this years new additions. Tonight I watched a very pregnant mature doe chase her fawns and other does away from her bedding area across the street, and almost had a few of them hit by cars as they were chased to my side of the road. This went on for a good 20 minutes.

When I went to my back yard and looked into the wood lot behind me, I had the two yearlings(One is a Buck) that hang around here bedded in their bedding area, but the mom wasn't anywhere near them. 15 minutes later, as I was working in my yard, I heard a commotion and saw the mature doe, chasing them out of the area as well. She specifically was chasing her young buck yearling.

For the past several years, this has been the normal routine a few weeks before they give birth by me here.

Anyone else seeing any does acting in this manner?

I heard a report that the 2012 Spring turkey season is on track to harvest 18,000 birds AND over 80 % have been ADULTS.
The adult numbers are above the averages that have been stable for years.
Enjoy the 2012 harvest of your big bird(s) but 2013 may be lean for adults, and hope for this perfect nesting weather to hold for a great hatch to have some Jakes out there in 2013.

Also some Western Ohio counties are having a banner year in numbers even better than traditional counties like Vinton.

I would like all Ohio Sportsmen to add what they harvested and number of Jakes seen in 2012.

I shot a 4 1/2 old tom in 2 days hunting- no Jakes seen Knox county.

Buddy shot a 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 - 5 days hunting -no Jakes seen Knox.

I've got a strutting tom, a jake and 4 hens. It'll be interesting to see their response to "the flock", but may have to cut back the numbers.

The last time I was out, the 3 toms that came in spotted my jake and strutting tom and were instantly pissed and were in a quick approach to kick some butt...or at least investigate what those turkeys were doing in their area.
What has been your experiences with turkey decoys?
How many do you use? Hens? Jakes? Toms?

Chalk up another good friend to "big head hunter" disease. I don't get it. Guys I used to hunt with start a group, start filming themselves, put some crappy videos on youtube, and suddenly think they are the next Tom Miranda.

Why do we hunt? For fun? Food? To be famous? If you think you are gonna be a big shot TV host because you killed a 130 inch buck over a corn pile and tagged out on jakes, you got another thing coming.

It seems every year more and more of my frineds fall prey to this "Big head hunter" disease.

It used to be I could text a buddy a picture a deer I killed and they'd ask... "How big is he? What time did you kill it? Was he ruttin? Tell me the stroy!" Now if I even bother this is the response I get...

buddy- "Where'd you kill it?"
me- "Across the street from Mr. Smith's"
buddy- "Whats his number? I wanna hunt there too"

I'm all about sharing the wealth and many of you know I'll take anyone hunting. I have lost so many spots to these clowns it isn't funny. I hunt primarily 3 spots that total 27 acres. When I killed my turkey this year I wouldnt tell these goofballs where I killed it. The next morning I took a kid hunting and had a truck follow me from my street to my hunting spot...I know whose truck it was- he aint very slick. The next day the landowner told me he gave this guy permission to hunt as well. I say ok and thanks again for letting me hunt on his property. One more day, Im taking a kid to my sweet spot and get up hill only to see two sets of decoys, two hunters and two camera men calling and doing all sorts of stupid things. Needless to say I havent seen a turkey there since.

Thats just one story. I could tell the same story 1 times where me or a friend kill a big deer or turkey and end up walked all over. A couple places have stopped allowing hunters alltogether because of how these idiots act.

I confronted one of the young hotheads and asked why they keep walking in on my spots while they brag about their new 500 acre lease 30 minutes down the road. He said "look pal, Im gonna famous. we already got videos on the internet and I'll step on anyone's throat I need to, to be famous"

I just walked away. I watched some of their videos. Poor quality, terrible filming, safety violations, legal violations, etc.

So for now, I gaurd my spots. Warn a few landowners (that I can really talk to) and keep quiet my trail cam pics, new spots. Even the kids I take hunting are getting harrassed trying to figure out where we hunt. I tell the kids to say "Jake's family has a few spots"

So aggravating. Is everyone else seeing this or is it just me? Didn't mean to make such a long post but I needed to vent!
