I will not participate in another crossbow debate

Posted 07-14-2010 at 10:23 PM by dannmann801

It's a familiar debate on this forum.
The last two ended up locked, although there was some reasonable discourse in the last one. But it seems they're all the same.

This post was my response to badger a couple of debates ago, as he was looking for some positives about using a crossbow. I gave it some thought and feel like it's a pretty fair response, and it sums up my feelings. Now that it's part of this diary, I won't weigh in anymore.

Best of luck to us all as...

What will this season bring?

Posted 07-12-2010 at 11:53 PM by hickslawns (How I was hooked on whitetails!)

I have been scouting...

Coyote hunting, shed antlers, and education

Posted 07-12-2010 at 11:49 PM by hickslawns (How I was hooked on whitetails!)

While I did experiment with some coyote hunting in between season one and two, now I was on a mission! Over the winter I hunted them hard and learned a lot. I read, watched videos, picked the brains of varmint hunters, not much different than when I started deer hunting. No success! I have been able to call some in, but as of now, I am still seeking my first coyote kill. What a mission I am on!

Deer season was now over, and I once again began pursuing shed antlers. While being

Season two. How to be humbled

Posted 07-12-2010 at 11:46 PM by hickslawns (How I was hooked on whitetails!)

Year two rolls around and I am so amped to repeat this exhilarating new passion. I bought a used bow. I practiced. I used my entrepreneurial spirit to buy a semi-load of tree stands and sell them to offset some of my costs of hunting as well as to give myself as many tree stands as a person could want. I upgraded the bow (after selling a few tree stands). I bought a 44mag for the future possibility of taking a deer with a handgun. I shed hunted. I began to read about and plant some food...
