went scouting over the weekend. jumped a few, found a honey hole . near a building site. reminded me of the days when i followed my dad in the woods. im talking 10 birds on one bench. dont know if im going to shoot any birds this year though. depends, its a big pondering thought. to all the other bird people that run into this blog be safe and shoot straight. keep me posted on numbers. thanks eric

I've been drawn to the woods, to nature, to the outdoors since I was very young. Long before I ever thought about hunting, I took to the woods. I climbed trees and picked wild blackberries. I brought home frogs and garter snakes. I learned how to sleep out under the stars and carry a pack with all that I would need to live comfortably in the woods for days on end.

My life living on the farm is way busier now than it was in my backpacking and hiking days, but I am still drawn...

Today i went out and did a little scouting and got a few stands up. I know some people are thinking "wow you're just now getting stands up"Ive been working a lot of overtime and my time in the woods is very limited, unfortunately it will probably stay that way until late October. Ive had good success in the early season so it upsets me i wont see much time in the woods.

The first thing i noticed in the woods today was how much more timber has been cut out of the farm i hunt....

Today was my first journey to the woods since turkey season. Oh, I have been beating bush closer to house all summer long as I have been letting the two beagles run rabbits two or three times a week. Almost always this is in the evening. I drop the dogs off at the creek or by the blueberry patch or by the thicket in the pasture. I make sure they are solidly on a rabbit trail and then I go back to the barns to do evening chores. An hour or two later as it starts to get dark, I bushwhack, following...

Well last year i read a few blogs from people about their hunting progress through out the year. I enjoyed reading those, so this year I'm going to write a Balog everyday i hunt and then some other days. basically a hunting journal. I hope someone may get some enjoyment out of reading this, i know ill enjoy writing it.
