Everything above the dam has several inches of ice on it. Below the dam is wide open.

BB,
I live fairly close to it and drive over it several times a week. I'll bump this thread back up when the ice thaws. Though I think a couple of weeks might be a bit optimistic.

I'll update you later today after i drive over it. As of a few days ago, it was water on top of the ice, so it's starting to thaw. I have no idea how thick the ice was at it's peek, but I do know that it usually busts up pretty fast as the water levels flutuate with dam releases.
I imagine evrybody and his brother will be down below the dam for the next several days as they wait for their favorite lake to thaw.

Sorry, Dude. She's still iced up and fairly thick form what I can tell. Ice as far North as you can see from the dam and raging chocolate with white water below it. It's gonna be a while, still.
Don't shoot the messenger!

Hopefully with these 60+ degree days and nights that stay above freezing it will be good to go by next weekend.

Well, well, well. Things are looking up for you, my man. O'Shannesy is 50% open above the dam. I'm sure it'll only be a matter of hours/days before it is completely ice free, but a dude could definately boat around up there. Didn't make it up to the boat launch, more on that tomorrow. Griggs and above seem to be the best bet if you're looking for Scioto fishies. Just watched a guy launch at Griggs while I was eating lunch in the car. He must've forgot to put his plug in because he had her all set in and then went racing back to the car and pulled her back out. HeHeHe. He finally got it together as he "smoked" off into the distance....Aren't boat ramps fun in the Spring?

I got the "forgot the plug" thing over with my first time out with my boat. I could understand though, after this winter........I'd be so excited to be launching the boat that I'd forget a few things too.
When do they start putting the docks in? I can't remeber, is there something to tie up to while parking your truck at O'Sh.? I would be launching by myself and sometimes that's tough to do without a place to tie up to.
Well, I can't wait for the report. Hopefully this time on Monday I'll be steaming up river:) :)

Okay.....don't hold out on me man!!!!! I caught some shad today and I'm ready to go fishin'

You're good to go,man. No ice. Ramps are primitive this time of year with no docks etc... The ramp on the West side of the river at Twin Lakes wouldn't be a bad bet. If you're solo, there's plenty of small trees you could tie off to while you parked the car. I don't know how comfortable you are doing that, but without another person, you might be a bit limited. Watch out for all the debris that is floating around and collecting around the ramps, there's a bunch.
Good luck and be safe. I'd bring plenty of refreshments and a radio to keep yourself occupied, I'd imagine the fishing could be a tad SLOW.

Well, the bite was pretty light for me. Had a few runs, that's about it. All I had were large shad, no small ones. BUT.....that has all changed now.....I netted a bucket full of 6-8 inch shad. Atleast 30 or 40 pounds.
I got an inside tip on some productive cattin' else where.......I'm gonna give it a try and see what happens;)
The cats are turning on strong though..........I can't wait until Monday....my next day off!!!!!

Smallie,
Click on the link I posted above. Scroll down to "Scioto/below O'Shannesy". The CFS is over 1200 right now. That's too high to safely enter the water. Probably too high to effectivevly fish from the bank, also. Look for the CFS to be under 500 for safe wading/floating.

Have the docks been put in at the ramp?
