I am thinking about buying a new muzzleloader and scope. How many of you shoot the Encore? What's you setup? Is the Encore worth the money? How much do they cost? The new area that am hunting offers some long open shots. I would be using it during both the shotgun and blackpowder seasons. Any imput would be appreciated....Thanks

I looked at Gander Mountain today at the Encore, as I have been kicking the idea around of getting one. GM has them for $499 black composite, $519 wood, $599 composite stainless, and $649 laminate thumbhole. Seems like a really nice firearm, I am curious on its groupings as blackpowder, the wear on the pins if you change alot, and the variance between wood, laminate, and composite.

I have an Encore. Thats all I use during gun season. Mine is blued with brown laminate stock. I have a Nikon Monarch 3 x 9 on it. I also bought the 25 acp breech plug. I shoot 105 grains 2f triple seven with a 250 grain TC shockwaves. It shoots very well. It puts the smackdown on deer. They are pretty expensive but I have no regrets buying mine. I don't own a slug gun,so I was willing to spend the money to get what I wanted. I would like to add a pistol barrel so I could deer hunt with it. I was thinking a 44 mag or a 454.

I paid $519 for mine with the walnut stock. I bought the laminates from EA Brown for $100 bucks. If you buy it with composites and want the walnut, let me know. I will give you a deal on them.

I also use my Encore muzzleloader for gun season, and have for the last 3 years. I honestly doubt if I will ever hunt with a slug gun again. I use 150 grains 777, and a 295 grain powerbelt, it is a very lethal combination.

from what i see the longer the barrel the better, more powerful and more accurrate...not the total length of the gun, just the barrel length

What is the difference between the stocks? Is it a looks thing or permance/feel thing???.....

I have a T/C omega in 50 cal., stainless with composite hardwoods stock. Also have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 scope on it.
This is one of the smoothest shooting firearms I've ever shot.
If you have the money to spend I say do it. I don't think you will regret it.

I had an Encore 50 cal black synthetic stock with stainless steel barrel. I had a Leupold 3 X 9 scope mounted on the gun. I could not get consistent groups at 100 yards with this gun. I tried many different combinations of powder and projectiles. I even sent the gun back to Thompson Center and they said that everything was OK. I have since sold the gun and purchase a TC Omega with a laminated wood thumbhole stock in 50 cal. with a Leupold 3X 9 scope. This gun holds very tight groups to 150 yards and beyond.

Wow, that's amazing ballistics. How far over the back would you be holding to be good at 240yds?
A generous 1850 fps, with you stated load, with a 100 yd zero would put you 28" low at 240 yds. A 150 yd zero would put you 3" high at 100 and 20" low at 240 yds. A 200 yd zero would be 8" high at 100 and 9" low at 240 yds.
Muzzleloaders are great guns and can deliver an increased range over a shotgun slug, but they are not a centerfire rifle.
TC makes high quality MZ's. You might also consider a Savage smokeless MZ. It would provide and increased velocity potential over any BP substitute MZ and does not require immediate cleaning after shooting.
Good luck

I have the walnut stock, I just prefer the feel over synthetic. BTW, I am looking for another Encore frame, to set up as a pistol. If anyone sees one at a pawn shop or knows of a good deal on a used Encore, let me know please. I would even buy a complete gun.

I have a 50 cal. Encore, stainless barrel and beautiful wood stock. It is the best shooting, looking and feeling gun I have owned. The way they cut the stock, it almost feels like a pistol grip. I shoot 100 grains Triple Seven, 245 Powerbelts and get solid groups out to 150 yards. I am thinking about moving up to 150 grains for a little more distance and power. Also, after shooting different grain bullets and talking with several gun shop guys, the Encore tends to shoot better groups with the 245 bullets, in my opinion. I also shoot open sights.
I have a couple of buddies who have Omegas and love them. If you don't have the money for an Encore, go with the Omega...you will love either gun.
My brother shoots a Knight disc and would throw it in the trash if he could afford an Encore or Omega.

I have the stainless/realtree 209x.50. I shoot 150 grains of triple seven (pellets), 250 grain shockwaves and 209 primers. It is topped with a silver Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x40. Love that setup.

I have the same setup as Thundergut however mine is walnut/blue. I killed my buck this year at 130 yards on the other hillside. At 200 yards I get a 7 1/2" drop with sighting it in dead on at 50 yards.
Its well worth the $ 300 (used) I paid for it.
I recently bought the .204 stainless barrel for it as well.
