View Full Version : Anyone Still Roughing It?
During the weeklong gun season our 3 sometimes 4 man hunting party stayed in a 12 X 24 outfitters tent. We cook on propane grills and camp stoves and haul all our supplies into camp. We use a 2-burner propane heater at night to keep the chill off. We sleep off the ground on cots and have good -30 below sleeping bags. I love camping in cold weather and look forward to it every year. We have been roughing it like this for over 10 years now.
We will camp during ML season as well.
Anyone else primitive camp (tent camp) during the gun season or am I just a die-hard??

ha,roughing it,it wasnt long ago all i needed was a tarp or a pc. of 8 mill visqueen plastic to make a little lean to.all i needed was a bed of dry leaves and a army wool blanket, itchy but warm...a nice fire with a log wall to bounce the heat into the tent...and some think i rough it today.i have a 16 x 8 dome tent i just got this yr...i have a nice sleeping bag that goes to 15 below...at 200$ the bag is over twice what i pd. for the tent...i still sleep on the ground and do not use a tent heater...and i dont use the fire close enough to tent for heat(sparks)...but i do have a fire...i do cook over the fire using a metal tripod by couglans...ohio has no weather cold enough i can not comfortably camp in with the equip. i now have...next i will tell you about really roughing it,before the lean to shelter...
