I just heard a new record bluecat was caught in the Ohio River near Paduka. If true, will break the old record of 104#.
It will be the new KY & IN record depending on what licenses the angler has.
Wow !! If true, then that's a big fish !!

Gal-dam..............just shows you there are some monsters still out there. If this is true I hope this fish is still alive? Too bad you can't take scale samples of catfish. Imagine a fish over TWICE the size of Jim's big blue............

Hey Jim, when did this happen? Is there any way we can find something out about it on the Internet? I'd love to see some pictures of this monster.

I just didn't get to see him *LOL*
You would definitely have to pull anchor & follow a fish like that.
My fish 62# was 50" and the 104# fish was 55" so it was probably close to 60" long would be my guess. I'm going to bet 58" just to see when the stats come out.

I just saw a post on a site in the KY section last night. They were asking for info about it. It takes a long time to have one certified. I'm sure if they did that, we'll know. If not, it's only speculation I guess.

Was talking to a guy at work last night who is a paylaker:( :( :( Said the paylake he fishes had three blues over 70-lb die last year, from what he does not know...But he was happy as he told me the owner has ordered 6000-lbs of blues to be delivered by april -1..... wonder where they are comming from:mad:

That's bullsht.........these people need to get a fuggin' clue. Do they have any idea what their "paylakes" are doing to the river populations? They don't care........it's easy money.......why take the time to go find some fish in the river when you can hit your local pay lake.

If that is true I would let the ODNR know about it.

True or not I dont know..But he told me the 3-big blues died in the heat of the summer and they found them floating on the top.....I guess they come from indiana water on the Ohio River, where it is legal to net them..But I am not 100percent sure of that, but where else would they get 3-tons of giant blue cats????
Anyway, he told me the owner orders 6000-lbs twice a year, once in the spring and agin in the fall???? He said most of the cats he orders in the spring dies mid summer.......agin this is just hearsay so I cant be sure of the truth.

Got to be something that can be done. You think the guy selling them has a permit to transport them here?

02-08-2003, 09:12 PM
i think that is common practice for pay lakes to buy fish...why not they do it with whitetail deer.

I have seen people with deer as pets before. I guess the game ranches do that with all the animals they get.

I bet you got the munchies ?:D
Just for the record.....mixed wolves don't work. They will almost always turn. About a year or so ago a young boy was killed by one his grandmother had had for a long time. A breeder said that the mixes should all be put down & are unpredictable. Actually they are predictable, they will attack someday.
A pure wolf is much safer, but is still a wild animal, like a lion, etc.

Jim that fish dont look any bigger than the 62-lb you caught?
mrfish/OH
02-13-2003, 02:34 AM
If that big guy is 8' tall and the little guy is 6'5" it might be. It would tell alot more to see a side shot. It's got to be in the girth. The 104# record was 55" My 62# was 50" and I know of a 70# that was also 50 "
The point I'm making is 5" could be 50# difference, so it might be 58-60" and still be 141#. I'm afraid they will have to kill it if they haven't already, to examine the stomach to be sure there's no lead or sand in it. The old record musky were done like that. The ones in the 1950's from the St. Lawrance seaway, they used a funnel & packed sand in them to top the records. The guy who did if fessed up before he died. In those days the record meant you got some money or something, so it helped him take care of his family.
Anyway, this is all I got on it so far. I've emailed the guy who has this picture & asked him more information. Was it caught on rod & reel & bait, etc. Jim
Ps: It does look like it has a wider head than mine did. Remember the dollar bill?http://home.fuse.net/jcgormle/Dollar%20bill.jpg

After looking at your pics agin I guess it does look a little bigger, when you compare it to the pic of your fish showing just the back, I would like to see a side shot of it.

Hey All- I seen one a couple years ago down at Santee Cooper in S.C. Big Flathead. Biggest one I've ever seen. It approached 60" in length. Looked to be well over 100 pounds. I wish I had a cam cord with me. CATKING!!!
mrfish/OH
02-14-2003, 09:19 AM
Why did you want a cam cord......did your line break ? (cord=line):D
Yes, I wish you had a picture too. I wish that place was about 1 or 2 hours from here. I'd be a guide for sure !:p
I might have to look into the James River real hard. I'd rather fish for a living. All C & R there, so I could handle it. Amost time for you to hit the Santee isn't it ?

First of all,as you know mrfish/OH, my recent bout with the old ticker has made me postpone Santee Cooper. I'm going to go in Sept/early Oct. cwcarper would see alot more on our trips, if he kept his eyes on the catfish instead of the trash fish;) The freakin cat was as big as you carperboy, you need glasses:cool: THE CATKING!!!
