Need to add Disclaimer for responsible ATV users only in the title of this forum.
Unfortunatly I find alot of ATV users are slobs. Most are too ignorant to realize, or dont care if they disrespect other hunters. I had many hunts ruined buy ATV's and see very few peolple using them responsibly.

Thanks Bottom Bouncer your statement just supports my anti ATI feelings. Most are too ignorant to realize, or dont care if they disrespect other hunters.
Use your ATV to get deer out,do any pre season work you need done. Respect other hunters around you and using your ATV to be minimal impact.

They are getting much more numerous..Here in Jackson county you always saw hordes of hunters comming in the friday before gun season, lots of them were pulling campers...Now lots are pulling trailors with up to 6 atv's on them.

Many people here in Michigan use them to pull shanties, and their stuff out on the ice to fish. IMO no different than a snowmoblie in this case.

I think the biggest problems here in Ohio are, their use while hunting on state lands, and they have made some private land unavalible for hunting because of leaving ruts etc...All being said I wish I had one:D ..I would not use it for hunting however.

aimrite.i do not agree with if you put it on the trail its your fault.i have stands at clelans and if a trespassing puke rides by me its not my fault.now if clelan comes by on a atv...no problem.and there is no excuse for pukes to have them at poston.no matter wher a stand is located.not only is it rude, the damage they caust in muddy cond. and erosion.

I wouldn't have asked for a ATV forum if I thought everyone was going discuss how much they dislike people who ruin their hunting.
It's just like anything else, jetskiers, people with 10 rods on the bank............all the same people, yet we don't discuss them all the time!
There are people out there that ride on designated trails. Not everyone is a jerkoff like you guys make it sound. Take it up with them:mad:

Thats true BB, But having a forum you will have several different views about something, being positive or negitive. You just have to go with the flow and not get mad when people don't think the way you do or act the way you want them to. Like some people i know. LOL .. We are all here to have fun and just state our opinions. Ok, stepping down off my soap box now.;)

I live in Columbus but my family and I own approximately 175 acres located in Scioto County, we have had numerous problems with them meaning(4wheelers, motorcycles and off-road cars and trucks that poach wildlife) dating back to the mid to late 70's. These people have tresspassed on our land and desecrated the landscape, with ruts and mudholes that can swallow a full sized truck not to mention the trash they have littered upon us. Just recently we have been starting to enforce the no tresspassing policy, I have found that most of these people have no respect for our land whatsoever and are angry that they now risk an arrest and possible jail sentence for something that took advantage of without our permission for all these years.
My opinion of this off road stuff is, go to a designated area to ride your whatever you want to call it, your a menace to honest working and law abiding folks who don't want your unwanted appearance on their property. I don't come ride in your yard or property or poach wildlife, don't come to mine. And remember the landowner who does not want you there, by staying away. BTW, I own a 4wd truck and I don't off road on my own property, I used to hunt also but I only go now for the thrill of the stalk not the kill, I don't carry a gun. (But I'm OK with hunting), Just the trespassing that ticks me off and destruction of property that I don't like.

I don't know why everyone is flaming the atv's. I thought this was going to be a forum for them to exchange their views and opinions ... not to debate what they like to do .. Personally I don't think they have a place in hunting, other than for disabled people but I don't feel this thread was intended for that debate, I am sure we wouldn't like it if someone came into the fishing or hunting forums and started flaming... Just an observation .. But if you want we can flame them in the hunting section:D :D :D :D :D Just kidding

Seems that if you don't want ATV's on two tracks on National Forests, you should also ban sport utilities as well. I can't imagine a 400-500 lb machine doing more damage on a two track than a 2 1/2 ton sport ute.

I just feel a need for designated areas for them, I don't particulary like the atv's but not everyone is an irresponsible owner and tresspasses on private property. Like it has been said before 1 bad apple can ruin the bushel. There is also a plus side to them I'm sure, if anyone can give me at least 5 good reasons to ride one other than something work related, or for disabled folks getting around I'd like to hear them.

I got reemed for posting my thoughts in the bowfishing forum. I don't necessarily agree with it........but oh well, the other guys like.......that's fine.
If you've ever hunting around Logan there are MILES of trails that you just can't take a truck through and it would take a day to get back to an area to hunt.

I don't have anything against people doing what they like to do, I don't have an atv so I really can't judge ... I can say this, I have been fishing all my life, I have been very fortunate to have had a boat since the age of 12 or so.. So I know first hand of how fisherman hate jetskiers and think they are mindless idiots ... I own 2 jetskis and love to ride them, I know the rules and I have total respect for fisherman because I am one, but on the water I get the looks fisherman give... I guess my point is you can't judge everyone for the mistakes of a few.. I have never seen a jetski buzz my boat or mess up my fishing, as I am sure that no one has ever seen an atv do the same to hunting .. They tend to all have riders on top of them doing the driving..:D :D :D Blame the idiots on top, not the machine underneath, and these people would find away to mess something up no matter what it was because they are IDIOTS.. The bottom line is we live in an, its all about me, screw you world right now. .... people simply just don't have any respect

steve,no motqrizwd vehicle is allowed on the nat. forest.atv's have a few designated areas.in the old days they were allowed on national forest and dug it up pretty bad, creeks too.they had mudrun paths all over the place criss crossing and everytime a mudrun was held they needed new trails.it was a maze of trails.and these mudruns went on all times of yr.i shudder at the times i had to get off the path or get killed while trying to hunt.it was a battle for the nat. forest.thanks to erosion...atv's were finally banned from the nat.forest.but for years and still today some locals still defy the law and will zoom off from authorities when they try to apprehend them.they seem to think the forest is theirs since its their backyard.unfortunately AIMRITE witnessed this first hand this year as i turned him on to this spot in the nat. forest.after seeing a few nice deer and feeling good about the nat. forest .these slobs on atv's come in ,using 2way radio's which is illegal too.they ride right up to your stand even if you are way off the trail.they just make another trail.thats why its such a hot topic, here in ohio.

Well said...
Just this past spring some local yocal invites 25-30 of his new friends to "ride an area" that is off limits and during spring turkey season to boot!!!
He was a dealer in the area for atv's and one of his selling points was that there was an area near there that you can ride forever & all day long... never told his customers/friends that the area was off limits!!!
After hearing us out about how they were shutting
down the hunting,
as they stopped by a store for drinks,
(ever hear 25-30 atv's rumble thru the woods?)
in an area that is off limits to motorized vehicles of any kind he said he would not take them out till after 12 so we could get our hunting in... we in turn told him that the woods would no longer be safe to ride in because we had just made it open season on any moving vehicles from that date forward.... they then must have found somewhere else to tear up

I have never saw an atv rider that gave a damn about forest or private property or about what they were tearing up with the ruts and mud holes and litter.
I have been told many times that, (IT'S JUST WOODS WHAT ARE WE HURTING).
My property has an access road (easement) with a gate that runs on a ridge, (easement) the power company and the telephone company are the only legal people who is actually allowed there without mine or my family's consent.
My reasons for not wanting them on my property:
1. property damage
2. litter
3. destruction of the natural habitat along with the eco system of the animals you can't see that keeps it all together
4. poaching of wildlife (deer, turkey, grouse, or any other animal worth killing)
5. last but not least, it's my damn property I paid for it, you want a place to ride go buy your own land and you can do what the hell you want with it.
Contrary to popular opinion, I believe this forum has a need to be here, whether your in favor of ATV's or against them.

I'm not over in the bowfishing(hunting) forum trying to make a case.........
Maybe you guys should stop in around all the camps around Logan. These camps are right in the middle of all the trails and 80% of the people hunting are using atv's simply because it would take hours to get to your hunting area. I never see any of these guys making their own trails or acting stupid. They are hunters, same as me and you. They know what should and should not be done. Just the same as boaters, the fisherman are respectful and descent. You get the guys out there with jetskis and cigar boats that don't give a fug. It's all the same.
You might as well say that all boaters are asholes too.

I took a little trip today down south to see my mother, well before I got in the driveway my neighbor flagged me down to tell me a of big redneck who wants redemption for ruining a $1000.00 set of tires that got spkied while tresspassing on our property. This guy actually thinks I owe him for his tires, well he only passed 5 no trespassing signs on the way to where he got spiked and cut a tree out of the way that I felled across the path to keep people like him out.
My neighbor was very informative and told me to watch out that this guy is out to get me, I mean what the hell (5 no trespassing signs and a tree) give me a break. I'm smart enough to know when I see a no trespassing sign (the first time) and a tree cut down across the path, it means keep out. I can't believe the guy was ignorant enough to keep going, so as far as I'm concerned he got what he deserved. Now I have to watch over my shoulder everytime I go down south for some big redneck who has no repect for anyones property, and obviously can't read. Jesus whats the world coming to when you can even own property anymore and live on it in peace. I have a motto and it's called DON'T TREAD ON ME BECAUSE I DON'T TREAD ON YOU ! ! ! !

I personally knew two people who owned ATV'S....I have not seen them in several years, but they were like the guy mentioned above................They rode the woods withing a 5mile radius of their house, carried an extra gas can for long trips...They would ride along the highway, or road just far enough to escape the view of the landowner from his house.........Then head up into the woods for a day of destuction...I saw first hand the destuction of property these things can cause, they had many trails thru the woods wide enough to drive a truck thru, and they loved it when it rained and they could go "muddin" man what ruts they caused while doing there "muddin"

I have checked his record on Offender Search and he has served time 2 different times for aggravated assault (5 or 6 counts), and is a habitual offender with numerous types of assault charges. I mean I don't need this kind of problem, but no big dumb redneck is going to trespass on my property anytime he wants and intimidate me. It's time to take a stand......

Well just because he served time doesn't mean nothing. I work in corrections and they try to use that to scare people. You will find that letting the local law enforcement know about his record, you will see more being done. Because they can look him up and then see what they are dealing with. Assault charges could just be someone throwing something at someone or trying to hit someone with the four wheeler, doesn't always mean hitting some one. Take pictures and record times and give them to the local cops. It will catch up to him and you will win.

I say make a game out of it......I think it would be fun setting up all sorts of traps.........what's the guy gonna say? "I'm gonna sue because I trespassed!" As long as you have signs posted....and plenty of them.......whatever happens to him on your land is his fault.
