When trying to get the most distance out of a cast. The reel or the rod?

I dont know the correct answer, but i would guess diameter of line used and the rod.

In general, between the two I'd say the rod, assuming that the reel has enough line capacity. I think the line, amount of weight you're casting, aerodynamics of what you're casting, and your overall casting techniques are all much more important than the reel. Now, if you're talking super long casts when every little bit helps, reels can play a bigger importance, but still not as much as the rod.

in order..Rod, reel and anglers ability to cast(technique).
Rod..cant cast 150 yrds with a 7ft rod..has to be the right length & made with the right concept in getting distance. Not all long rods are made to cast long range.
Reel..even with the right rod..it still wont make any difference if the reel isnt matched to the rod..again.."a $300 reel on a $40 rod" or vise versa!
Angler's abilitys.. you can hand any one a high dollar distance rig but it will be useless unless that angler knows how to cast..im not talking just "cast" im talking know the many different TYPES (or technique)of casts to get distance..if not it will just be a waste of money!
