View Full Version : spook deer
if you hunted an area all bow season with in a 500yrd radios and you have been spotted and they start raisin cane and turn and run, how long of a wait do you need before you hunt the area again....reason i ask is i was spotted last tuesday and all i seen was flags runin out of my blind area.....cuz i went out this mornin and for the first time seen zero deer

you should be ok "if" and thats a big "if" you play the wind right and move about 100 yards. i have , in the past, been busted then watch deer the rest of the season skirt around that stand.i once only moved about 50 yards. they would come by right under my new stand all the while watching my old stand.
do you think they winded you, saw you moving , or both? in my opinion, i believe you are better off if they just saw you moving. once they know what "you yourself" smell like, you REALLY have to play the wind. on my small hunting area (about 35 acres) i have at least 6 stands ready for the season. i like to save 2 of them for right now. even if they have not busted me, i like to switch up right when the rut is in full. in the past i'm sure the deer have patterned "me" coming and going to my stands. almost every time i hunt a new location for the first time i see deer. even if i have only moved a hundreds yards or so.
if you have somewhere else to hunt for a couple days, it wouldn't hurt to let them calm down for awhile, but i still would move location 50 yards minimum.
you also got to remember about not seeing deer right now could be the big boy has "locked" down a doe and ran all the little guys and gals off. i have seen them doe this for a 2 or 3 day period. once she's bred, he'll be on the move again.
thanks for the info..... last tues i seen 2 small bucks and both caught me......movin wind was in my favor. i think its best to get up a tree im headin to gander mtn now to get a ladder stand...pretty good price

i'm not sure where your at but menards in our area still have some 15 ladder stands for $59. i bought on of their buddy stands this year for $88. i didn't need another stand but i got 2 safety harnesses with it. figure 20 bucks apiece that leaves a cheap price for a stand!

i think i might have the same problem........i was in a stand and a buck came up behind me to my left....he was walking towards me and the wind was in my favor and he turned and headed back where he came from.....well i grunted to get him to come back and he turn and looked then slowly troted off with his tail up......should i move the stand alittle bit or will it be ok??
football think we are in the same boat we better move 50 to 75yrds just ta make sure
