Sure wish i could help you out, i gave up Quantum spinning reels after they did away with thier best reel..the Energy series.
IF..and i do mean IF i had to pick one of thier spinning reels now, id go with the Catalyst PT, atleast with them they added upgraded bearings , better oils and grease.
I heard when they released the Response series, they had lots of problems with the reel breaking right at the neck where the reel foot is....heard that from a lot of anglers who are Quantum fans....or should say WERE Quantum fans!
I know i saw somewhere on the net where someone did a field test on those reels..i'll try to find it and post it here for you to read!

I'd stay away from Quantum. Every Quantum reel I have bought, with the exception of my Big Iron, has had problems. With the spinning reels, the worm gear and the paw are always scr-ued up, with baitcasters I've had problems with springs coming off inside.

Man you just dont have very good luck?
I own 12 Quantum Energy spinning reels and 5 Quantum Irons..i cant find a fault or let down in anyone of them...and ive fished some of them REAL hard too.
logged 100's of smallies on the spinning...and tons of flatheads on the baitcasters.
I just dont like the changes they made to thier spinning reels, the baitcasters are still awsome for the price.

A long time ago, when the hypercast first came out. Bought one......out of the box it didn't work. I have a Classic Express baitcaster. The spring to the flippin' switch came off. The BlueRunner I got from Fisherman's. They sold it to me cheap because the anti-reverse wasn't working. I fixed that, and it had problems with the paw, just the same as the Hypercast did. Now it's fixed and works fine. I took it all down to the bear frame. Polished all the gears and the housing of the roller bearing.
That's a lot of work for a new reel that retail's for $120.
