We have all missed a deer at some point. Here's a question for you. Do you regularly take 40 yard shots at deer with your recurve? Does your arrow carry enough KE at that distance to make a lethal shot. I don't think my compound bow does but every bow is certainly different. If you know your equipment is capable and you are accurate at that distance then chaulk it up as a miss and call it hunting. However, it seems as though you yourself question the actual decision to take the shot. Patience in the field is every hunters biggest asset.

Also, was this real or are you just testing the waters here. I wonder aloud as you wrote, "don't beat me up too bad." We don't usually roast people here, but I know a site you could go to get hammered on a post like that.

i missed a huge 8 point 2 years ago. although he nevere figured out where the shot came from ( he hung around at 30 yards for at least 5 minutes after the shot), i never seen him again for two weeks. by then , i had already tagged out.

if you know another spot the does hang out, try there. he will still be around them. but i doubt you will see him again from the same stand.
of course, that is my opinion and i'm sticking to it!:p

40 yard shots with a recurve......4 deer appearing from behind her....losing your patience with a shot.....

Forget about the buck and maybe ponder some of the other things that happened.

40 yards in cover thick enough to hide 4 other deer she's moving closer and you couldn't wait? Whats was the hurry?

Recurve, compound, or crossbow it was stupid to take the shot just because you were tired of waiting. Maybe by watching that doe you may have learned a little about deer behavior that could have been applied in other situations.
