I sat in a ground blind looking at a small clearing 20 feet away down a single shooting lane.

That's it...

I had to stay alert though because if the big boy goes through I will only have an instant to make the shot. I'm going for it again in the morning. Ho hum.

Brad, I'd normally say every hunt would be boring after killing that beast last year, but I know your the kinda' guy that truly loves it no matter what. I wish you all the luck this year tagging some freezer meat. Just curious, what are your goals for shooting a buck this year? Anything decent, or something in particular?

I feel your pain. We've all been there, but if we got a deer everytime out that would probably become boring too. Each hour you go without seeing a deer your'e 1 hour closer to your next big boy encounter.
Good luck this morning!!

I sat on stand for 2 1/2 hours tonight, had a button buck and a doe walking around my stand underneath it lol and kept repeating their steps. I'm holding out for a mature buck in this area though. I know their there. I'm gonna wait another week week and half before going there again.

Today, I would have preferred a boring hunt.

Some yahoo put his stand up hanging over the property line where I got the big guy last year. He shot the first buck to come along, a 2 1/2 year old 8 point. Get this, straight down through the back, and had no exit wound. Not a drop of blood anywhere.

I helped him search for 5 hours, and will go back tomorrow, but am rather ticked off. I don't fault anyone for taking a deer whenever they can, but it should be ethical. This was not.

As for the location, I figured this would happen, but the circumstances stink. The property owner who let him on the adjacent property knew about my fortune and where I was hunting. I'm not real happy with him either for rolling over on me like that. This kid is not a relative or anything... just some guy who knows him and was around when he was telling "everyone" about my deer. Argg!

I kinda know how you feel. Our property is up against state property. There is always guys sitting right on the property line. What makes it worse is that you can't do a darn thing about it.

They're definately not QDM members either

I was starting to think the same thing until yesterday morning.

I was hunting the "back 40" stand Saturday morning. This would be the fourth time I hunted this stand and the first for the morning.

I had a huge doe come right under me, but when I turned to get into position to shoot her I bumped the tree stand cable and she heard me and went on high alert. She never picked me out, but she snorted a few times and quickly trotted off.

I knew when I hung that stand that I should have put it in a tree that was five hards further back. Needless to say that's what I did this afternoon.

I saw a decent buck this morning. Too bad I was at church. It was walking a tree line behind the building.

hunTer, what is QDM if I may ask?

Brad,

I thought you were in Honduras?!?!

Bow hunted 1 1/2 days at the "club" last week. First afternoon had a doe less than 15 yards and no clear shot. Also had 7 real nice gobblers come within 10 yards of the log I was sitting on....they were the reason the doe was in a hurry! Four of the birds were over 20# and had beards in the 9-10" range!

Second evening, while still hunting walked up on 3 does feeding on a food plot. Stuck the "big momma" doe at around 6:15 pm with a 30 yard broadside shot. Little did I know the fun was just starting, she went into the thickest re-growth clearcut on the property! Buck sign is increasing down there, more rubs and scraps everytime I get down there.

Also, Sgt Fitz & I did some fishing in KY this past week.....you gotta love 2 days of bow hunting and 3 days of fishing in October.....anyway caught my first KY Muskie this month! Wouldn't you know it I left my digital camera in the truck....but I have a witness! Fishing was a little slow, caught several bass but it was "work". BTW - He & I will be bow hunting this week if your still around give me a call.
